I never understood why it was necessary to study all the details about some classical composers because "nobody listens to classical music anymore". I was smart enough to tell this to my teacher and she nearly failed me. There is definitely more music around than that what's on top charts and most certainly enough people who know how to appreciate it. I am so happy that Gaga is one of them. One could argue that even TF/TFM wasn't extremely commercial since she put out a different sound than other pop artists, her sound just happened to take off and sell a lot at the time. It was still pop though. I really think she means she is not into any pop(ular) music anymore. This. Of course artists change and evolve, but most never entirely change the genre they were actually famous for. At least not entirely. See Madonna.
