It's for secret holiday themed concert events for her fans, so she's offering the album for the low price and then for no additional fee you get access to the holiday event in LA or NYC to meet her. It's not desperate, she's doing something nice for her fans. Ariana did the same thing with Yours Truly, you got access to a holiday party if you bought the album on her website, now hush and stop being so rude.
