All we saw from our end were promo slots in France/Germany cancelled, Australian visit postponed (that never came), a video cancelled, etc. Clearly some severe management struggles internally and then Gaga just stopped altogether for a few months. I honestly don't think G.U.Y. ever had a shot. The video was essentially a movie of what Gaga had hoped for ARTPOP in the beginning. Basically a funeral for the era, then she moved on and no single followed. I think she almost had to release G.U.Y. for her own sanity- Put out the imagery she wanted for the album before letting it go. Even if you're having management issues, you still need to press on. Why did she pick G.U.Y.? She should've picked a catchier song. Eventually you just stop and throw in the towel until something changes. In this case, getting rid of her management and starting over with a rebranding effort via C2C/Grammys/Oscars.
