River 118,984
Maybe he simply meant that he guided her toward a high quality jazz music like which songs to choose, the way of recording and all this.. like don't be afraid of the top and best jazz songs, you can sing them and you can do it in a high quality.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
craig 680
Maybe he doesn't mean "away from pop" but just towards quality within the jazz realm? Don't interpret everything for maximum shade and controversy,

Lady 748
I think he's just extremely glad that Gaga is finally able to fully present her best asset- her voice (and doing that while singing jazz). I don't think we should get so worked up over his statement.
Leo 3,000
Only this forum would accuse an 88 year old heteros-xual man of "shade". He sounds like he's saying he helped her get her focus back onto quality and authenticity after people tried to use her during her last eras, and she appreciated that. Don't take it the wrong way
codymonster 8,678
Gonna just pretend he didn't say this I DO understand where he is coming from tho. I mean, he's like 88. He probs isn't able to hear the musicality of electronic music. Tho what he said SOUNDS shady as ****, he obvs didn't mean it that way.
Raikou 1,169
I'm sure he's being misquoted in some form, but let the man speak his mind.
djBuffoon 12,136
I'm really tired of this comments, saying that pop music is subpar, mmm I love Tony and what he's given Gaga, but this.

djBuffoon 12,136
I'm sure he means well, but it would be nice of him to show some love for Gaga's own work. She has written exceptional, beautiful songs that speak to a lot of people. And she's given outstanding pop performances. Sometimes the response to C2C makes me feel like people act like Gaga was not really doing anything musically seriously worthwhile before, which ofcourse is not the case. Her work is quality. I agree with this, and it's one of my only qualms with Cheek to Cheek. Whilst it makes people who wouldn't have before appreciate her voice, it also means that her previous work is played down which I dislike because like you said, her work is quality and she has give many outstanding pop performance.
CrownClown 105
Wait, at what age did she start singing Jazz? I really can't remember...... And sorry Tony, but Gaga was already doing quality music even before meeting you. Don't like his quote. It's like...everything's popular it's not quality music, like, c'mon! faux 2,190
He's 88. You guys must be brain dead or something, it's pretty obvious why he's saying that. :ghostney:
Antidote 95
If he wants young people to give jazz a chance he should be open about pop music and give our music a chance
