I'm not religious but i do believe in god, but then again i might just be brainwashing myself or rather forcing myself to believe in a bigger power for the sake of comfort.

nothing wrong with wondering the purpose of it all! i do think the best and most useful thing we can do is not get carried away with wishful thinking though. i truly believe one can find adequate comfort without needing to pretend things are the case when they know they might not be. i get that that is easier for some, but i'm not going to patronise people and say they have to have something false to hope for otherwise their life would be pointless because i just don't think it's the case.

Actually, according to the New Testament, that priest is mistaken and everything in nature is held accountable by their conscience because humans deep inside know right and wrong, especially when wrongs are done to them.

eh, not all opinions are equal. but like i said, i haven't read it so i can't comment on the veracity. and i'm not sure it has anything to do with the secularisation of the world. protestant ethics laying the foundations for modern capitalism doesn't mean it isn't a totally secular thing, or that it's "rooted in faith".

if the priest is of a religion where what he said is true, then the eskimo is absolutely right. some actually claim that aborted children automatically go to heaven because they are free from sin and were unjustly murdered, which raises the question, why not abort all babies and save them the trouble of living by sending them right to eternal paradise!? you'd only be doing them a favour.

I doubt a person that grew up not knowing about god & sins would naturally detect specifically what is wrong and what is right (according to the bible, of course). maybe morally & ethically according to what society he belongs to, sure.

Perhaps, he would not the recognize the religious context, but he would know morality that stemmed from faith based codes. And why only focus on Christian laws? Doesn't Islam and Buddhism have laws of conduct as well?

Do you know anyone who wants to be killed, robbed, lied to? You think rapists mind if someone they love was raped? Morality begins when people realize a wrong was done to them and then try to seek justice. What is justice without the codes they were based on?

I can't understand how so many people believe in God (if you mean that person by "God") and the creation of the world This is all a fairytale made 2 thousands years ago. People like to believe in unreal things and create pretty stories and legends

However, I believe that science has not discovered a LOT of things. And I believe there is some sort of energy/time that the science will probably never discover. Just be positive, be kind to others, there is an energy exchange between all of us, I feel. Let's just make a world the better place rather than fight because of religion

not all religions even believe in a heaven afterlife

I think Catholic beliefs are too emphasized when ppl think of christianity or even religion in general just because they are more well known
