KyliesChild 16,907
I think that this was probably how ARTPOP's promo was going to be but then the DWUW fiasco happened. The ARTPOP era was a mess BUT it gave us two amazing music videos, performances, fashion, and the album was spectacular.you see, the Cheek to Cheek reviews are mostly about ARTPOP. It was considered a big flop so Gaga probably didn't want things like that happen again. Also, why not?
MonstrousReality 0
I think it's for a couple of reasons: Gaga seems to be in a really good place at the moment and is happy to push for more promo for an album she clearly enjoyed making with Tony Bennett. Her management also seems to be treating the album promo campaign properly not just like some random Christmas jazz album. Also, #1's are an important industry signifier & it's probably occurred to Gaga that if she really does wants to make more jazz albums in the future (either with Tony or without), she has to show that her doing jazz, is a worthwhile endeavor to her management/label. The only way to do that, is to make sure C2C opens as strong as possible, with a #1.
Ronk 14,762
Why are people attacking the OP? It does come off as excessive after the drought of promo we had during the ARTPOP era. To answer OP: I think it has to do with her new management and also maybe Gaga wants that #1 album for Tony. It would also give her an opportunity to return strong with her next album. And also, this album showcases her vocals like never before and all this promo will sell the album more to get her more recognition and respect even from non-fans. That being said, I'm loving all this promo. Every word of this. I live outside the space time continuum.

E24187 615
Firstly, the promo is anything but "excessive" so your question is illogical. Secondly, with new management behind her and Tony's people wanting it to be a success too, it shouldn't be a surprise. Thirdly, Cheek to Cheek shows her vocals better than all of her pop albums combined. It deserves promo. Find a seat.

The only way to do that, is to make sure C2C opens as strong as possible, with a #1. There's another important benefit of #1. Talk show hosts love to introduce their guests with a mention of a #1 single or album and they hold it up for all to see. It elevates their own talk show. So a #1 should mean more talk show invites, and therefore more awareness of the album with the public. And she might even get to sing a song from the album on the show. That would slay, because of the demographic of people who watch talk shows. That said, the chances of a jazz album finishing ahead of a country album in America seems slim, so #1 would be a major and highly unlikely achievement. I live outside the space time continuum. LilVenusian 579
I guess their going hard now cause its not like its gonna make any serious moolah in the long run. It clearly cant be dragged out by singles/ music videos or any other major promo. Sales are probably gonna crash and burn after the first week anyway but whatevz. Get that thirsty fan/dusty old people/christmas splurge sales gagz
kevinthesheep 2,947
gaga said it herself, that she wants to introduce the younger generation to the jazz genre. how do you expect she does that without promotion? she can't just release the album and call it a day, this is what gets people talking about it. ryhanna 3,507
They probably saw how a lack of promo affected ARTPOP commercially and chose to step it up this time around, especially considering that jazz isn't a genre that Gaga's known for. Plus highly publicizing a jazz album puts a lot of emphasis on her talent.
Coop 15,354
You're complaining about too much promotion, when with ARTPOP there was slim to none? Wow what is wrong with our fan base?
Tokyo Rose 1,475
I don't really get why she's asking us to promo. She never asked us to promote Born This Way like this. The album is in the top 5 on itunes, it's not like they really need the sales
Whispering 18,865
It isn't in any way excessive. This is a tight race, so they are doing whatever they can to make sure as many people know about the album as possible. Neither Gaga nor Tony are in the US, so they are having to get creative with the promo...both now and over the past few days.
GypsyPrince 237
Because if this doesn't do well, the media will continue dragging her for it and she doesn't need any of that anymore. Another #1 album will at least keep their mouths shut.
