craig 680
I understand this, yet that doesn't explain most of the other lines that I find are REALLY awful. It's not like she's empowering big girls especially when she says "in all the right places". More like she's promoting an hourglass figure and whatever. Does anyone ever think how striving for this glamorized hourglass figure can effect ones health? And anyway, what you said also doesn't explain how she thinks that as a woman she needs to "shake it" for men.I think we need songs that are fun and cheeky, middle ground between Beautiful and Fireworks (which try to empower everyone at once and are a little sappy) and My Humps and Anaconda (which merely celebrate large butts or breasts).Isn't it nice that chubby girls can "shake it" too? As opposed to sitting at a piano is dark clothing making "music for the ears not the eyes").
PicklePower 1,649
My points remain strong and relevant. She's not made a song about self-acceptance, but more about what impresses men. It's still a song about self-acceptance, though. People will accept themselves better if they know men like a little bigger booty. It probably makes girls feel better about themselves and know that men will still like them. Isn't it nice that chubby girls can "shake it" too? As opposed to sitting at a piano is dark clothing making "music for the ears not the eyes"). Good point! :) MEGHAN TRAINOR | Katy Perry | Taylor Swift | Lady Gaga | Rihanna | Ariana Grande | Beyoncé | Nicki Minaj | Sam Smith
LeoFameMonster 1,592
I feel this was really insulting and irresponsible, having a f*cking eating disorders doesn't make someone a strong person it is the quite opposite. :whip: I guess she is to busy reading the Pizza Pizza menu to read the dictionary and look up what Anorexia is, eating celery and ice isn't it Hunty It's a shame I liked her, oh well just gotta wait till adele's CD drops and she will just be a distant memory - only room for one big girl It's still a song about self-acceptance, though. Good point! :) Born this way is a self-acceptance anthem, this song inspires some girls to accept them selves, big difference. But I see where you're coming from. Either way this is a catchy song that inspires self acceptance nothing more nothing less.

It would be a nice song without lines like "Shake it like I'm supposed to do. I'M SUPPOSED TO SHAKE MY ASS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT BEING A GIRL IS ALL ABOUT ALONGSIDE PLEASING MEN WITH MY FAT ASS SO THEY CAN GRAB ONTO IT WHILE I SHAG THEM BECAUSE I HAVE A VAGINA AND WAS BORN TO SHAKE MY ASS AND HAVE SEX WITH BOYS. Her and Adele are beautiful. How was it insulting? She said she tried to be Anorexic, but she didn't like it. I don't see how that's offensive...? Shoot me now I don't think she exactly meant it like that By "Shake it like I'm supposed to do" she could mean something like "I have a big butt so why not use it." There's a difference between I want to shake my butt than I was made to shake my butt. This song promotes a disgusting mentality more than body acceptance like everyone is making it out as. That's literally it.

Gaga's songs don't always promote good things, but I don't see you complaining about that and calling her vile. She never said she was made to shake her butt. Don't take the lyrics of the song too literally either. craig 680
Fact it, for a girl 10-15 pounds overweight telling her:(a) "your body type is actually found s-xy by a lot of guys" is more empowering than (b) "everyone is a beautiful firework, it doesn't matter how you look"Notice that B doesn't really challenge the "anorexia" beauty ideal of many fashion mags.
