Biggest Mistake of the ARTPOP era

Follow up to my BTW thread since the ARTPOP era is far messier than Born This Way ever was.

 

ARTPOP had tons of potential and is a great album, but it obviously didn't fare as well as her previous efforts. Which event had the most hand in this era's underperformance?

 

Some good things:

 

- 2 million albums sold WW

- 2 platinum singles, three top 20 hits

- Sold out world tour

- Some of the best music videos Gaga has ever released

- Guiness World Record's most Powerful popstar of 2014

DWUW video, it kinda killed the momentum of the era. But i think DWUW (solo) shouldve been the lead single also.

The DWUW video mess, Changing Venus for DWUW, the blackout and the emergency Applause release.

 

All these were huge mistakes that killed the Era. Too many mistakes

In fact , i think it was Aura the supposed 1st single , not Sexxx Dreams. But obviously , the singles changes in the last moment damaged the era.

The blackout, but I understand why it happened now, so I'm over it. I'm ready to move on and see what Gaga's going to deliver with CTC and her 5th solo album (whenever that happens).

I think putting R Kelly on the song.

Now don't get me wrong, I love him on the song.

But I think it could have been much bigger (and would have gotten a real video) if R Kelly's name wasn't attached to it.

Thus, it would've garnered more success for Gaga and ARTPOP, and then G.U.Y. would've also been a bigger hit.

DWUW sabotaging Venus

 

Just think about it.

 

Gaga was really excited for Venus as the second single, it was something she was committed on doing

 

It already peaked at #32 around the time that the audio video released.

 

DWUW comes in and creates the DWUW/Venus confusion

 

DWUW itself was a terrible choice for a second single because it doesn't define ARTPOP like venus does

 

The DWUW switch is pretty much what started the ARTPOP mess.
