Meghan Trainor - Title

★★★★☆

With Title, Trainor effortlessly throws listeners back to the 1950s with her bouncy tracks led by hand claps, jazzy brass blows, and heavy booms of drums while she manages to simultaneously appeal to a modern audience by toying with raps and s-xing up some lyrics. (Just imagine the music of Grease being replaced with "Title," though. It would actually fit quite well.) While some are still angry with some of the lyrics of "That Bass" and continually slam her popularity, many listeners have learned to accept Trainor for what she is: a pop singer. She writes primarily to make catchy music, not to promote social justice or to offend others. Whether she's singing smooth doo-wops over a ukulele stem or playfully rapping over some strong drum beats, Meghan Trainor has proved that she does deserve the Title of a starry-eyed chanteuse.

My little blog doesn't count towards Metacritic (obviously), but the album was actually better than what I anticipated.

thanks :applause:

Sebastien

I have only listened to 2 new songs so far (listening to the whole album one track at a time), and I'm already noticing some pretty annoying trends with her music.

Like I'm Gonna Lose You sounds too much like Close Your Eyes. (When she sings "show them what’s beautiful"  in CLE, it sounds almost the same as when she sings "every broken heart knows" LIGLY).

3am sounds a lot (too much) like her Christmas song I'll be home.

Disappointing so far...  :noparty:

EDIT (Track by track review):

1. The Best Part (Interlude) - She could have made a song from this 10/10

2. All About That Base - Never liked it much but you can't deny its impact 8/10

3. Dear Future Husband - 6/10

4. Close Your Eyes - 6/10

5. 3am - I'll be home comparison 1/10

6. Like I'm Gonna Lose You - Close Your Eyes comparison, I wish CYE wasn't on the album so I could enjoy this fully, but I've already been listening to CYE here and there for a while, it takes away from this song feeling fresh. 5/10

7. Bang Dem Sticks - I actually love this, but the version I have right now is only a 1:39 snippet   10/10

8. Walkashame - Catchy, really enjoy this track 9/10

9. Title - SLAYYYY my favourite Megan Trainor song thus far (have been listening to it for a while now)  :music:  15/10

10. What If I - Bit too slow for my taste but still good 6/10

11. Lips Are Movin - Decent song, poor single choice though imo 7/10

12. No Good For You - When she says the "That boy's no good for you, you're way too good for him.." chorus it sounds so sick  :saira:  10/10

13. Mr. Almost - This collaboration is a success, her and Shy Carter sound good together 8/10

14. My Selfish Heart - Nothing special really but still good 7/10

15. Credit - Giving her "credit where it's due" for this song 8/10

In the end, except for a few disappointing tracks (3am, Like I'm Gonna Lose You (because of CYE)), Meghan Trainor has put out a really SOLID and satisfying debut album.

I see the potential for a few hit singles (Title, Bang Dem Sticks, Walkashame, No Good For You).

I think a comparison with Carly Rae Jepsen would be typical, and in contrast, Meghan destroys her.

Meghan Trainor is here to stay and will have a lot of impact imo  :legend:
