I dont think either of them really did anything amazing with their albums this era (other than have commercial success) to earn "best pop vocal album" (however you define the winner of Pop Vocal album). One has a better "Pop" album, one has a better "Vocal" album. Neither has the full package. When it comes down to quality, it doesn't even come close to In The Lonely Hour. The only reason it is nominated for anything other than R&B Album/Pop Vocal Album is because of the way it was released.
