Guest
I always see people say that Interscope, or Troy, or whoever made Gaga "water down" ARTPOP, whether to make it more commercial or because they just didn't like it or whatever the reason. What makes you (if you think this happened) think that Interscope did this? I made this thread because I have thought about this before, but in the new Seven article, Gaga talked about always having a lot of control over the production and sound, while her label always had a lot of control over her vocals on her records. This makes me think that ARTPOP, production-wise, is very likely exactly how Gaga wanted it to be, while maybe some of the vocals (such as Aura, maybe) were what Interscope wanted changed and edited. I never really see people complaining about her vocals on ARTPOP, but I see lots of people comment on the production and sound of the album. And after the Seven article, I have the impression that Gaga most likely had the songs produced the way she wanted. So, back to the question, what makes you say that Interscope interfered too much (or too little?) with ARTPOP? Is it the production? The vocals? The overall sound? The song choices? Keep it cute, and respect everyone's thoughts and opinions...I don't want this to turn into a thread with people fighting in it. :)

djBuffoon 12,123
The album doesn't sound any more or less watered down than her previous work. It hits hard, the aesthetic both disarmingly retro yet also stylishly futuristic, and the layering is pretty immaculate. And I won't even get into arguments against the songwriting. How "Sexxx Dreams" or "GUY", for example, can't stand up to "Alejandro" and "Love Game" is beyond me.

VasilisVas 5,188
I don't really think there's anything 'watered down' about the album. The music just wasn't as good as expected, and didn't deliver. I'm a little disappointed that Gaga calls AP her "best work to date" when TF, TFM, and BTW are masterpieces and pure genius and miles ahead of AP. If the GP liked her music, they would care enough to seek her music out and not just rely on radio to play it. It's 2014. People can go onto youtube, spotify, etc. and other places to find music they really like.
Didymus 34,380
Well, the vocals are still way too unnatural, like she said. No vibrato on almost any song. And the fact that she said that ARTPOP was designed to be "an album full of radio hits" in August and now says that any radio appeal is a decision made by Interscope.. Benji 20,113
She spoke about making ARTPOP two cds (during the making of the album) and said about having one being a pop cd and the other to be experimental... fast forward to the VMAs 2013 and it's a party album. Something changed. Also production wise? It's very weak but I think that was the producers faults over Gaga's or the labels.

We know that radio is the best promotion out there I notice the watered-down-ness when listening to songs like Gypsy, Applause, DOPE (so much more emotion live), Venus (oh oh oh Goddess of looove sounds so much better live), Swine (more emotion, the Swii-ii-ii-ine screams are amazing, the squeals, the reduction in length), ARTPOP (half-robotic voice, although I think this is done on purpose by Gaga). Glamourpuss 29,062
ARTPOP, to me, sounds like it was made to appeal to her younger fans. It lacked substance and a lot of the tracks are juvenile, in my opinion.
