Whispering 18,865
- Applause lost to Roar. - First week sales were half of what was predicted and way less than Born This Way. - After Applause didn't have the same impact as her other lead singles, her second single failed to do almost anything. - ARTPOP fell like a rock on the charts. I can see why people have the impression that she's flopping. - It's not a competition between two songs on a chart. Applause stayed in the BB top 10 for weeks. Radioactive and Blurred Lines beat Roar. Does that mean Roar was a flop? - First week sales for Prism were half of what they predicted. Is it a flop? BTW was coming off the TFM era. ARTPOP was coming off the BYW era, no U.S. tour had a disorganized start. Plus, it didn't have any 99 cent deals. -Her second single got to #8 on CHR in the U.S., sold platinum, and was her first single since Telephone to make it to the top 10 on the Rhythmic chart. It also went top 5 in Canada, UK and several other countries outside of the US. - Not until there was no single or new video to promote the album and Gaga wasn't in promo mode. Until that time, it was holding its own.
Optimus 298
For a normal pop star thats good but this is Gaga we are talking about
HORRORHOLIC 104
I don't know how it did, but it wasn't the right song or video for a single. Didn't show off her talent and the other songs were so much better it made G.U.Y. look bad! It didn't make it stand out, that'sfor sure!!
Whispering 18,865
I don't really know how successful or unsuccessful the album has been, as I have not paid attention to the sales charts (if someone knows how much the album sold worldwide, please let me know), but I just personally don't think this album lived up to it's hype and that's why many people are calling it a flop. I think it's one of Gaga's most boring albums yet, except for about 3 or 4 songs. I think Born This Way as an album is lightyears better than ARTPOP, and definitely nowhere near as good as TFM. ARTPOP sold 2.3 million copies worldwide in 2013, which put it in the top 10 albums WW for last year. It is all subjective, isn't it? ;) I think ARTPOP is light years better than BTW and I enjoy 90% of the 15 songs on the album. It took me a couple of years to work up to enjoying even half of BTW. The hype for that album was off the charts, like I haven't seen in a long time, and after such a strong start, it fell short. The BTW era set up the ARTPOP era, and it failed to give it a good lead in.
itaita 0
They just don't really waste their time with Britney Jean it was that bad... The point is, maybe to an extent, that BJ never said she was 'the best' of anything or anywhere. She came, she danced, she sang (sometimes), but she didn't really talk (much). It is LG's blessing and curse that she chooses to be so - unequivocally - artistic, also when she speaks about herself and her work. If you build yourself up, people will listen and may believe you, but they will also be quick to tear you down when the opportunity presents itself. Simple. I'm pretty sure she just did a few interviews. My point is that BJ didn't get much media hype, the public don't really know about it, so the critics don't bother with it
Sugarfall 3,723
Around 300K more. And at the rate it's going, it may not accomplish the 1M mark by the end of this year, even assuming G.U.Y. turns out to be a hit enough to move album sales. If not, then the harder it'll be for ARTPOP to reach it. Either way, it'll be a lengthy climb to 1M. A re-release is the most convenient and fastest way I could see for its sales to significantly boost. I have to fix u there it sold almost 700 000 in US. I believe too it will not reach 1 000 000 mark tho.
erfaan 2,789
ARTPOP never was and never will be a failure. Sure DWUW was messy but this album has some of her best ever produced content. She topped bad romance with G.U.Y. and the video is honestly one of the best things she's done.
Haroon 49,685
I think so far it has failed to live up to the vision that Gaga had for it, and the expectations that we had for it in terms of numbers. That doesn't mean that it is a failure overall, because I don't think we can call it a failure because the tour is yet to come and possible further singles We'll all see what ARTPOP ends up as being when the whole album era is over

GagaisHotAF 419
She is trying to gain back all of her fans and praise. The end of BTW Era brought her down to a new low. ARTPOP Era is trying to bring raise her from that low. Probably on Grindr
Mills 446
ARTPOP never was and never will be a failure. Sure DWUW was messy but this album has some of her best ever produced content. She topped bad romance with G.U.Y. and the video is honestly one of the best things she's done. The quality of the content could be disputed, but charts and sales couldn't. For it to possibly become her first album to not produce a HOT 100 top three single and at the same time not to cross the 1 million mark in album sales in the US have allowed chart followers and media alike to somehow regard it as an underperformance by any means. It has failed to live up to its hype, chart-wise.

itsdominik 16,742
I know most of you are tired of threads like this already but I would really like to know. The media, like we all know, loves to bring Gaga down and to call her a flop, especially after ARTPOP. But do you really think that ARTPOP is a flop? I mean: • 2 Million copies sold worldwide • #1 in US, UK, Japan, Austria, Croatia, Mexico, Russia, Scotland • Top 3 in Switzerland, South Korea, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Greece, France, Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, • Top 5 in Spain, Norway, Portugal, Holland, Denmark, China, • Top 10 in Taiwan, Sweden, Poland, Argentina • A REALLY successful worldwide tour ARTPOP may have underperformed a bit sales-wise, but it is miles aeay from being a "flop". Lots of artists don't even sell this amount of copies during their peak.
