VasilisVas 5,140
I don't really know how successful or unsuccessful the album has been, as I have not paid attention to the sales charts (if someone knows how much the album sold worldwide, please let me know), but I just personally don't think this album lived up to it's hype and that's why many people are calling it a flop. I think it's one of Gaga's most boring albums yet, except for about 3 or 4 songs. I think Born This Way as an album is lightyears better than ARTPOP, and definitely nowhere near as good as TFM. Mills 446
It's time to bang the gong guys! Tell the critics they don't know what they're talking about. Gaga is our best friend, and critics who make needless statements are haters. Do you tell the people who get their feelings hurt to follow advice? To change how they act because of it? Criticisms are vital though in order for the artists/products/brands (anything or anyone that sells something to the public) to be encouraged and motivated in bringing in their A-game. After all, it's us, the consumers, who'd benefit from an upgrade.

Worldwide album sales stand around 2.3 Million, according to IFPI, the organization compiling worldwide record sales. In the US, which constitutes the biggest market share in the global music industry, ARTPOP has yet to cross the 1 million mark. If ever, this album could likely become Gaga's first ever major release to not cross the said sales threshold - hence the underperformance claims. drinkmytears 2,332
Competition driven by stan culture has long existed even prior to the rise of both Gaga and Katy Perry. This isn't the first time where fans and media alike compared two artists head to head. The Beatles with the Rolling Stones, Mariah with Whitney, Britney with Christina, and the list goes on and on. And given that the music industry is still and will always be business, competition wouldn't and couldn't be avoided. Aside from that, competition in general brings out the best in everyone. I don't see your point. It exists, but that's not a good thing. That user was trying to say Roar "beat" Applause, but you cannot measure a song that way. Mills 446
Thanks you :) how far is she from the million mark in the USA? Around 300K more. And at the rate it's going, it may not accomplish the 1M mark by the end of this year, even assuming G.U.Y. turns out to be a hit enough to move album sales. If not, then the harder it'll be for ARTPOP to reach it. Either way, it'll be a lengthy climb to 1M. A re-release is the most convenient and fastest way I could see for its sales to significantly boost.

That user was trying to say Roar "beat" Applause, but you cannot measure a song that way. The point I was trying to convey is that competition is only natural and it's actually a beneficial thing to all parties involved, including the fanbases and the artists themselves. Sales do "measure" the customer satisfaction over a song. The more sales a song gets, the more people actually were satisfied over it. If anything, I find sales to be the best and unbiased way to gauge which songs are good enough for people to actually spend money on.
IAmThatGUY 0
This is probably the first time ever that I've seen a number one album be widely called a flop. One thing I'm very sure of for some reason is that I know that ARTPOP will go platnium and that flop BS will be a thing of the past nearly non exiting. I think they will combine Act II sales with ARTPOP like they did with The Fame and The Fame Monster. You never know guy and the possible next single and the Tour may save the album. Dayman 6,168
They're just picking the misinformed gossip articles. It's pop culture so gossips are hotter than real facts. Especially in the catty and trivial stanbases.

Mills 446
Hmm...not really. I don't think people in general think I'm Sexy And I Know It is better than Young and Beautiful. Not in general (in terms of being "better", even though being "better" in terms of quality is purely subjective), but more people obviously enjoyed listening to it to a point they bought it. I'm just saying if there's one way to gauge customer satisfaction without any subjective biases, unlike awards shows, it must be sales.
WorkBeep 0
Are you watching a football game? Because I'm listening to music and its not a competition. Its not like an award, Teenage Dream did in fact loose the Grammy to The Fame Monster. But Roar vs. Applaus is just bull****. There's room for both on my iPod. You know what I mean though. The media pinned them against eachother and people picked sides.
Judas Oyster 1,914
People always say one album is "flop", now its GaGa's turn because they were expecting high sales as BTW did. Easy as that.
