Nemo 4,291
You know what Gaga says, about the lie you repeat until it becomes true? This is what it looks like when that concept is turned against her. And unlike Gaga, many of the people doing it to her are professionals at lying.
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
The GP will believe WHATEVER the media tells them. So if the media wants everyone to believe that Gaga is a has-been, despite evidence to prove otherwise, they will believe it.
Nemo 4,291
I didn't know a number one album was a flop???This is probably the first time ever that I've seen a number one album be widely called a flop.
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
I was just referring to first week sales. I know Prism is doing better. But nobody was calling Teenage Dream a flop when it sold less than 200k in its first week. I don't want the media to be as harsh on Katy as they are on Gaga, but why can't they be as easy on Gaga as they were on Katy? Actually, Katy did get a lot of crap with TD's first week sales. Miel 15,009
It was far from a perfect "era", but it was far from a failure. imo it wasn't as good as TF/M or but it was far from a failure. 3 points in and ready for more
djBuffoon 12,115
I have trained myself to tune out anyone who harps on the ARTPOP sales. It's meaningless to me at this point, and takes absolutely nothing away from the music (her best so far, imo). I don't know, maybe it's because I come from a background in theatre, where money cannot be the objective, lest the art be dead on arrival. But how exciting to stan for someone who will risk her general popularity to create music and visuals that are meaningful to her.
drinkmytears 2,332
Actually, Katy did get a lot of crap with TD's first week sales. Source: http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/09/01/katy-perry-album-sales/ It hasn't been nearly as bad. Literally every article slams ARTPOP. Every article, every tweet, everyone is going off about how badly it did. I didn't know TD did badly until the 2012 Stan Wars. You can't say we heard as much about TD having a bad first week as we have about ARTPOP.
Gagz 2,579
The public (and fans I guess) think she is failing because they've seen what she is capable of sales-wise and chart-wise.
WorkBeep 0
- Applause lost to Roar. - First week sales were half of what was predicted and way less than Born This Way. - After Applause didn't have the same impact as her other lead singles, her second single failed to do almost anything. - ARTPOP fell like a rock on the charts. I can see why people have the impression that she's flopping.

I can see why people have the impression that she's flopping. Of course. She already reached the top of the pyramid of fame. Now she's not quite there anymore so she's very much 'flopping', which means basically nothing and is a dumb concept anyway. Computer 10,973
The attacks, the critics, the constant negativity, it's exhausting. It reminds me so much of Michael Jackson Invincible era. "This is a failure in Michael Jackson terms" they always said. I still want it to be fun, why does everyone else want it to be over for us? They all want to kill the fun. I think it's just a backlash phase... people really do love her they just are forgetting when they say it failed. 💚💛💕❣⭕💢💢 | ⓜⓔⓡⓡⓨ ©ⓗⓡⓘⓢⓣⓜⓐⓢ

Its not like an award, Teenage Dream did in fact loose the Grammy to The Fame Monster. But Roar vs. Applaus is just bull****. There's room for both on my iPod. Mills 446
It's the vicious cycle of the entertainment business, particularly pop music. We've seen it on Michael Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, then Britney Spears. Some were able to recover from it. Others didn't. It's noticeable that almost all of these artists have suffered from a MASSIVE debut, which only led to MASSIVE expectations and, as Gaga said, "insane" standard. They've achieved so much in the start to a point that there's really no other way but to go down. ARTPOP's figures aren't a failure. It's merely an underperformance. And if you look at her trajectory since her debut, we shouldn't really be shocked over it. Born This Way was already a hint on what we should expect, sales-wise and chart-wise. The tour's abrupt ending didn't help either. I didn't know a number one album was a flop??? A #1 book/movie/album could be regarded as flop if its sales significantly dropped during the succeeding weeks after its debut. Falling like a rock is what the concept of flop truly is. Competition driven by stan culture has long existed even prior to the rise of both Gaga and Katy Perry. This isn't the first time where fans and media alike compared two artists head to head. The Beatles with the Rolling Stones, Mariah with Whitney, Britney with Christina, and the list goes on and on. And given that the music industry is still and will always be business, competition wouldn't and couldn't be avoided. Aside from that, competition in general brings out the best in everyone. Wisdomless1 281
This has to be the best post I've ever seen. We all need to change, and if we're going to be spoiled brats, then her success will dwindle with our maturity. As FANS, we need to support the artist, her vision. If we believe in her, then we just HAVE TO DO THAT. I get so frustrated with fans. What's next? Why didn't she this? If only she changed that one verse. Seriously? One verse prevented you from enjoying the song? It's time to bang the gong guys! Tell the critics they don't know what they're talking about. Gaga is our best friend, and critics who make needless statements are haters. Do you tell the people who get their feelings hurt to follow advice? To change how they act because of it? We fell in love with Gaga for being herself, no matter what time it was. She's growing up and changing as are we! Support her, she needs us now to be support the message she is bringing now. Born This Way was about us. ARTPOP is about Gaga. She gave us strength. Let's give her some for once. Let's give power back to the artist!
