migamiga 12,102
If Prism and ARTPOP switched numbers, y'all would be calling Katy a flop :tea:
PopBitch 1,218
The era as a whole underperformed. She started out gangbusters promoting but it all fell apart and she went quiet for too long. The album underperformed, not a flop, but the most dramatic thing about it wasn't its first week sales (which were lower then predicted but still not a flop), it was its huge drop the second week, only topped by MDNA, and no big charting of singles like Gaga was known for slaying the radio, except Applause, and the video situation was a mess. For an album called ARTPOP, there was no big thread of art weaving in and out of promotion for this album except the beginning and only some of that seemed to make an impact. No one cared about the Koons statute. The tour was fun and a success and the media gave it favorable reviews and the album got decent ratings overall. Just kind of a nonentity impactwise musically on pop culture.
Toph 375
It most certainly didn't flop (sans GUY), just under performed in the sales department.
SIRE 75
I don't get why people call it a flop tho, I mean PH, BEYONCÉ and Prism did slightly better, but compared to the releases this year it looks much better. I mean hasn't it outsold Shakira, Mariah, The New Classic, AKA. 1000 Forms of Fear, Ultraviolence...

pachinko 10,492
As Gaga said at SXSW: "We’ve sold over 2 ½ million copies of ARPOP all over the world. I’m sorry I didn’t sell a million in one week. I have before. I’m very proud of what we did. It’s so insane. I’m held to such an insane standard. It’s almost like everyone forgets where the music business is now. Making that record [ARTPOP] was...it healed my soul every single night. It’s the most incredible thing when your friend can play a bass line that gets in your spirit and your heart like that. I was feeling so sick and then he played that and I feel so alive. I feel like I could keep going and then the words start to come and then the poetry. It becomes a song and everyone in the room has an experience that is encapsulated into an auditory moment that last forever. It’s like, that’s what the **** it’s all about." No, it wasn't a flop. Thank you!
FCK Amy 8
It was a flop if you're talking about what the General Public considers a flop. Madonna was called a flop in 1994 because she only sold 4,000,000. +1 This is a flop for Gagas standard but people like Britney and Xtina would do anything for these kinda sales... who knows maybe Gaga could flop away like Xtina or could dominate the world again like Madonna

FGGrayson 9,670
It wasn't a flop but it seemed like one because of what happened. 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻

Ethan 2,051
It was a flop if you're talking about what the General Public considers a flop. Madonna was called a flop in 1994 because she only sold 4,000,000. Tru but in 1994 EVERYONE bought music and today, millions millions and millions of people stream, illegally download, or not even care to listen. But however, Madonnas still considered a legend and still sells averagely!
Ethan 2,051
Flop - NEVER. ARTPOP is a sacred album for me... It did well with other albums released in the same period - BEYONCÉ, Prism, The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2. It just didn't impress the critics (who gives a f*ck about them anyway?) and didn't match the expectations of many fans (based on my observation of the members here on GGD). It's not a game-changer but people failed to realize it was never meant to be one. Gaga can't always deliver something like Born This Way. It's a fun, light, up-lifting party album with a immature youthful message. When it comes to its somewhat limited reach to the GP - it really was wasted potential due to mismanagement and wrong decisions behind the curtains. Sum it up and we have the ARTPOP era - short with lukewarm reception but what we did get was precious and exceptionally good. Let's focus on what we have, and not forget that all things aside - ARTPOP is musically genius - production, tracklist, vocals, the focus on detail is astonishing... : BLESS YOU BABE :legend:
