This is what I have chosen to take away from this era. Whether it lived up to expectations or not (it exceeded mine, to be clear), the fact of the matter is there is still plenty to admire and love about the album. It is not even close to the creative catastrophe it's been made out to be. I know good songwriting when I hear it, and this album has it in spades. You can tell she never wanted that song as a single. It's a great song, I love it and it could've smashed, but it shouldn't have been released. The main reason was because of R Kelly, I mean she performed it everywhere so it had no reason for not hitting the top 10 even without a video. Everything after that was a ****storm. Venus would have much more impact for the era and could remember as more iconic single even more, with the hype after Applause it could be perfect. But as others have said, at the end of the day there's just the music (and videos), and I enjoyed both videos and a lot of the music, so I'm good. Seriously though, with those sales figures for ARTPOP, I know there are many artists that would LOVE those numbers, so that's still something. I know it touched a lot of people, but the overall sound was just kinda cheesy to me. I enjoy ARTPOP a lot more. TFM is still my favorite because I loved the overall darkness of it.
