Do people seriously think ARTPOP failed?

If you're pressed for time skip to the end.

So, ARTPOP didn't fail. The first single sold close to 3 million copies, it was Gaga's longest lasting Top 10 hit, and the video and performances were all up to par with when Gaga was "on top". While Do What U Want had a messy release, it topped iTunes for several days, it sold 1 million without a video, the performances again were all show stealing and flawless, and everyone I know loves it. Even people who don't like Gaga or R. Kelly.

ARTPOP didn't reach what Born This Way did in terms of first week sales. But its on par with Prism, Bangerz, Pure Heroine, Britney Jean, and most female pop albums. It was no Beyoncé, it was no Red, but it still did well. Is it doing great now, not really. But everywhere I look there's a 258,000 figure being thrown around but its still between 200,000-300,000 like all her "competition" this year.

The tour is doing well, most shows only have a thousand or so seats left. The video was viewed millions of times in just a day, she's grabbing headlines, her followers on everything are increasing.

I just don't understand why article after article, stan after stan, and now even TV shows think its ok to say this album/"era" flopped when its not flopping. Its not The Fame Monster but its doing as good as anyone else. I feel like people won't even give ARTPOP a chance because the press has given it a bad name. G.U.Y, MANiCURE, Do What U Want, Sexxx Dreams, Applause, Dope, these are some of Gaga's best songs to date.

I guess what I'm saying is that this fan base and the media have a huge influence on Gaga's popularity. Now, I believe in the "music not the bling" as much as anyone else but lets face it. If G.U.Y tanks, if Gypsy tanks, if the remaining 20% of tickets don't sell, if Fame keeps getting reduced...budgets will shrink too. Public interest will go down (and its has). And while Gaga may think she would be doing the same show on the LES, she couldn't afford costumes by Donatella. She couldn't afford Hearst Castle, or Nick Knight. Tait Towers won't build her stage for free.

I love G.U.Y, its her best video in my opinion. I'm so happy with this album, the fashion, and overall I think everything has been successful. My question is how can we as fans change our reputation so the media stops hating on Gaga so much? Because the media seems to think Gaga is "failing" and even the GP does now too.

let's face it, this was probably the most frustrating era of her career, even more than BTW

the applause era was just perfect

but everything was bad after DWUW

hopefully GUY will overshadow the mess of this era

My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

They're just picking the misinformed gossip articles. It's pop culture so gossips are hotter than real facts.

I agree, it's not a failure.
But I have to point out a few things I disagree with.
Selling 1 million copies of DWUW without a video, while a good accomplishment, is definitely not anything to brag about. Songs do it all the time. And sometimes sell even more.

Also, ARTPOP is far from being on par with PRISM.

Once again, the album was not a failure. And those who call it a flop need a reality check.

People think what they hear. Say ARTFLOP enough, and yes, they will.

I've never thought of ARTPOP as a failure. Sure things could have gone a little better, but for the most part, she did just as we'll as her peers. And if Gaga's worst equates to others' peaks, well shit, that's fine.

My thread, it's impact. :rip:

Along with what you said, these are some good arguments as to why she's not "flopping" as bad as some people say.

I don't get the point of all these insults towards gaga saying that ARTPOP flopped... I'm sorry but just because her singles aren't #1 and it didn't sell 1 million in the US in the first week doesn't necessarily mean you flopped. She's selling around just as much as other popstars these days... so in that logic, they must all be flopping too right? Sorry for my rant, just needed to get it out

That's kind of the same thing I said when the haters were saying the Born This Way Ball was a "flop."

If a $181 million grossing tour is a "flop," then does that mean all tours that make less than that are flops?

It's less of the fact of how they feel about the album in general and more of how they feel about Gaga.

They're still pressed about gaga overshadowing their faves for most of her career and when she underperforms, they're quick to drag her.

I was just referring to first week sales. I know Prism is doing better. But nobody was calling Teenage Dream a flop when it sold less than 200k in its first week. I don't want the media to be as harsh on Katy as they are on Gaga, but why can't they be as easy on Gaga as they were on Katy?

Well, isn't it more interesting to say that the woman who was once the biggest popstar on the planet is now struggling to be average? Better yet, flopping?

It's all for a good story. Fact or fiction.

Btw, does anyone know if the media ever calls Britney Jean a flop?
