If they just cover songs I don't consider them a real artist, just a singer. :ohwell:

the average pop star who can't sing without auto tune and sings songs written by writing teams is "just a singer."

Ella Fizgerald and other jazz vocalists are artists at vocal interpretation, certainly with much more talent and training than the equivalent required to write "roar", which Katy is "covering".

most of rock, pop, and country are glorified folk arts.  Jazz requires ability.

So...Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and Elvis weren't real artists? How about Celine Dion or Rihanna?

Yo Yo Ma is not a "real artist"...just a cellist? Actors in movies aren't artists, because they didn't write the screenplay?

Actors are different than singers.

Actors are different than singers.

Not in every aspect, they aren't. They are also interpreters, like music artists.

What about the music artists and instrumentalist I listed? Are they not "real artists" either?

How exactly do you cover something on which you have writing credits? :awkney:

We disagree on something, move on.

Katy is involved in creating her songs, covering a song is totally different. I don't understand what that user is trying to say. :awkney:

Ah, so you don't think the music artists listed above are "real artists" either.

That explains why you think the way you do about jazz artists.
