"The only thing I have to do is whatever I want, and I want to write whatever I want. I just hope people don't ask me about it. So I don't feel a responsibility at all. I mean, I just don't. I feel responsible in other ways, community-wise - to be a good citizen, abide by the law."But precisely how does she want the public to hear those lines? "I just don't want them to hear it at all," she says, pouting a little. "I'm very selfish. I make everything for me, kind of. I mean, every little thing, down to the guitar and the drums. It's just for me. I want to hear it, I want to drive to it, I want to swim in the ocean to it. I want to think about it, and then I want to write something new after it. You know? It's just . . . I don't want
them to hear it and think about it. It's none of their business!"But, um, isn't she selling people this music? "I'm not selling the record," she says. "I'm signed to a label who's selling the record. I don't need to make any money. I really could care less. But I do care about making music. I would do it either way. So that's why it has to be on my terms."Sounds very narcissistic here, like she doesn't care to communicate.

Every artist is selfish though. Art is literally yur own thoughts being amplified into a work of art to show people. Every artist thinks this way, every artist. Even gaga, she's just too mainstream-courteous and self aware to admit it. It's not narcissistic to want to make music that you want, artists shouldn't have to compromise their vision for others. If people want a wishy washy happy go lucky artist then they can make music after their part time job at mcdonalds. It's nothing to me if someone doesn't want to listen to something I've worked hard on because I don't want to people please my way onto top 40.

You're implying that artists don't want to make it onto the top 40. It just so happens that there are plenty of artists whose art is the kind of music on the top 40.

Could care less???? This incorrect usage has gone way too far on the Internet, I've even read that it's being considered as acceptable in some places. Just no, it's not that hard to know the correct expression is Couldn't care less.

I think many or most artists, when they write lyrics, have ideas or a vision they want to communicate to their listeners. Especially is they aspire to write more than catchy radio hits.

Why did she get signed in the forst place then?

I mean... it is a bit contradictory, isn't it? You could be playing at the subway ^^

Music not the bling means that you don't write your music thinking of the charts, not that you can't be happy when people receive well your music because that means that what you wanted to do is liked and it is touching people, caring about that is nothing to feel bad about :)

Judas Oyster

And money from her albums and gigs :emma:

I'm not surprised she has this mentality at all tbh.

She always seems quite comfortable during her concerts (Going down to meet fans/interacting/the usual/etc) but she really doesn't seem to like going and performing on TV Shows lmao

Yeah ofc. But I find it a little bit unnecessary to say it to the world because she clearly would have care if she didn't have her rich parents in the first place... :P

But yeah, I agree, not weird that she thinks that way..

Lana even said (idk where) that at one point she cut all ties with her dad and had very little to do with him, ESPECIALLY during Lana Del Ray. Please, don't make such foolish assumptions.

And has said many times she use to be poor because she did everything for herself.

She probably signed to a record label so she could make the art she desires (with all the studio equipment, producers, money for videos etc).
