Koreku 2,387
she's too cool for promo You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.
ALX 170
Old interview. But if you don't go and sell your album and the label doesn't make money, guess what, no more record contract. It's a business. They invest in you to MAKE money. You were given the privilege of making an album with no compromises by the end (no thanks to your label but ultimately caved) but don't b---h about promoting it. It doesn't have to be a full-on promotion, but a young artist shouldn't take her contract for granted. By the way, I still love Ultraviolence. She even said she didn't make this album for a wide release per se, it was just music she'd want to listen to We just happened to get it
Ty3009 232
I'm a Lana fan but this statement annoys me for a couple of reasons. 1. She comes from a wealthy family, how nice that she doesn't need to worry about money. But being able to earn money doing something that you love (and not crazy amounts of money, even just enough to live somewhat comfortably) is a true gift and shouldn't be taken for granted. Take her father's money away and see how much she cares about promoting her record. 2. Anyone that truly felt this way would never be a recording artist signed to a major label. She comes off as a pretentious poser here.

She's not reliant on her father's money and she's said that multiple times in interviews from the last THREE years 2. How is that pretentious? Are you telling me Sia is pretentious for not wanting to promote her album? She didn't even want to release anything after Paradise but she contractually had to and this is UV. She likes the album but she doesn't have to relentlessly promote it so ungrateful "fans" like yourself who think they understand her are satisfied
Valextra 58
Queen By the way, UV is doing well, close to 1 million worldwide, without promo

She likes the album but she doesn't have to relentlessly promote it so ungrateful "fans" like yourself who think they understand her are satisfied She may not be reliant on it now but family money is always there as a safety net. Unless she were to cut all ties with her dad and be written out of the will. There's just a lot of entitlement in this interview that I find distasteful. And it doesn't matter to me how much she promotes or how her music performs commercially. She can promote as much or as little as she wants. But if she TRULY made music only for herself, she wouldn't ever have signed a recording contract. She wouldn't release any of it at all. But making music and art is about communicating. For a signed artist to say otherwise comes off as insincere. If she never renews her contract and retires altogether then I'll eat my words. I'm not trying to demonize her for saying what she said. She made some statements in an interview that happened to rub me the wrong way. You may disagree or see it another way.
LeoFameMonster 1,592
Mess. Gaga doesn't stay anywhere for free. I was joking about Gaga staying places for free, but she does get a lot of things for free.
Cody Draco 2,531
Said the singer who's not selling very much at the moment... I'm pretty sure Born To Die is still selling many copies in 2014 when it was released in 2012. Try again hunty. :later:

Cody Draco 2,531
And yet she signed the contract. No-one held a gun to her temple. She was fully aware that this could happen. Maybe she signed her contract so she could make music without having to fund/distribute her own projects? Maybe she signed her contract so she could work with good producers? Maybe she wanted to have her own income and not live off of her father?
Cody Draco 2,531
REAL music not the bling my a**!!!! When did Gaga obsess about ARTPOP's commercial performance? she's never been about the bling, ESPECIALLY this era. boundaries, please. Gaga promoted the sheisse out of ARTPOP despite the claims that not enough promotion was done. Whether she cared or not, Gaga invested lots of time and energy into promoting her album. Artrave, SwineFest, mutiple tv performances, many many interviews, etc. Gaga was selling ARTPOP, Lana has not been selling Ultraviolence.

Shadow 6,632
Bet she'd care if she were starving under the bridge. It's your job, Lana, not a hobby. If she really didn't care about selling records, why did she sign up with a label in the first place? It's her life, but at least be consistent. Do your own research.
