Rollercoaster 2
I'm over this. You really like arguing and I'm just not that kind of person who tries to change the opinions of others to match theirs. I'm not talking about opinions of my own, moreso the opinions of the majority of people that have an opinion on this particular album. You can't seem to grasp that and once again are up there on your high horse trying to come across as less arrogant than you are. I really like to argue? No, I just can't bare to see people going on about things that they're clearly not capable of understanding because of the current location of their head. Benji 20,113
I agree and disagree. ARTPOP lacks the soul and power of her previous work. For an album mainly comprising of EDM, it simply lacks the punch that EDM needs to have. Swinefest done well to mask the lack of power ARTPOP generally has as she gave her all into performing the songs for the first time and the revision of the songs helped. If we didn't have Swinefest, people would have still been disappointed by ARTPOP.. it just drawn attention to the fact that ARTPOP could have been so much better if it was produced to the same standard as her previous. Personally, I think as DJWS worked on Born This Way and was getting some of the blame for it being supposedly "overproduced", he purposely avoided receiving the same criticism on ARTPOP and that caused it to lose it's punch and soul which is understandable but disappointing. Quark 7,098
People were not here for Zedd's production, or DJWS stuff that sounded damn near to Zedd. It was great in theory, but when it came along, majority of people (people no longer here, critics, general public) didn't go for the new sound because it was messy and lacked heart. The thing is that all of the things you ate saying are just opinions. And I don't agree with your opinions since I like almost all of the production on ARTPOP. But you are acting like your opinion is what everyone thinks.

Majority of people do have those same opinions, though. Obviously you don't, but the majority of people (shown by the album not being well received AT ALL) didn't really like the music. Some of it is great - I love DWUW & Gypsy, even Venus with it's weirdness. But alot of it just doesn't have a point - it should grab you emotionally, lyrically, empower you or just being care-free and good to dance to.... and alot of it is none of those things 100%, maybe a little, but not completely in the way her previous work has been. I listened to the whole born this way album yesterday and after listening since 2011 non-stop until ARTPOP came, I listened again and it seems more like the album that came after ARTPOP. Songs like Americano, The Edge of Glory, Born This Way, Scheisse... hell, even MTN and I don't even like that song, but it's got a pulse that none of ARTPOP has. PinkBalloons 0
The concepts of the songs on ARTPOP weren't all suited for electronic music. The album could have been full of EDM and been fantastic, but when there's songs like Sexxx Dreams that rely on a sensuous 80's sound, Fashion! which takes influence from the 70's, the emotions expressed through the real instrumentation of Swine that leads into the electronic portion of the song, and MANiCURE's instrumental fullness in Swinefest, having too much EDM causes the songs to sound like they're fitting into the sonic mold of an album when it should be the other way around. There are enough electronic songs on ARTPOP that preserving the essence of the songs I referred to previously would not be an issue or take away from the album. In fact, it would only serve to enhance the sound and variety of the album. To me, it seems like she had her mind set on an electronic, modern sounding album, took the concepts that were inspired by different genres and tried to bring them into more modern sounding production, but the final result ended up being tinny. Yeah, screw the modern EDM sound, 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s were more fun and inspired and pleasant, not down with new EDM at all really :)
Benji 20,113
If anything the EDM on ARTPOP has more edge than any EDM on mainstream radio. Production wise? Not at all, ARTPOP is basic and stripped, the only edges are how jarring it is to listen to weak EDM.

WorkBeep 0
People hate the album because of how it performed not because of it's quality, as much as they want themselves to believe that's the reason. If the album has smashed the chats you wouldn't have made this thread
ARTPOPisaChoice 946
The Fame is her most soulless album... ARTPOP has less soul than Born This Way but waaaaay more than The Fame imo. Hands up to the sky 🌧 I’ll be your galaxy 🌌
Benji 20,113
Give me a song that sounds like Aura, Venus, GUY, MJH, ect. on mainstream radio and you might have a point How on earth would finding songs that sound like those prove my point that they aren't like anything hard hitting? That makes no sense Anyway, Aura is a messier (and weaker) version of loads of songs that are featuring "real" instruments with dance music. See David Guetta's work recently, avicii etc Venus is great, shame about the messy middle eight. G.U.Y. is a watered down Zedd track Mary Jane Holland is one of the three (MJH, DWUW and Venus) that I like on ARTPOP. They're the only songs with a little backbone

Ronk 14,762
I love swinefest and still play the video of the show that I saved on my computer. I don't know if presenting the songs that early impacted ARTPOP. I live outside the space time continuum.
Omegahedron 190
She took a risk with Swinefest, playing the most disparate and un-Gaga like songs from the album. Did it pay off? Some ways yes and no ....
