LStephens11 15
When I listened the first iTunes festival rehearsals I thought ARTPOP was going to be the most experimental, raw and true album. The synthy burlesque vibe of Sexxx Dreams got me like crazy, Swine's realness captivated me and I loved the pin up influences on MANiCURE. But then, when I listened to the album, I kinda felt, dissapointed? Well I don't know if that's the right thing because the songs were great but I was expecting them to be more crazy or more sensual. But when you listen to ARTPOP album, you don't really get to enjoy it. The electronic instrumentals make the album look dead. It doesn't feel like it has got a soul. The lyrics are great, Gaga vocals are great and instrumentals are great. Even the melody are really great and she got a lot of hooks. But I don't like the fact that ARTPOP is FULLY electronic. Her past albums have always been electronic, but they have had heavy metal, gothic, rock, glam influences. I'd really like to see Swine produced by Madeon and Sexxx Dreams produced by a grunge producer. Sexxx Dreams actually had the potential to bring Gaga back to the top, but they really ruined it with those (you were in my). The first bolded point makes your entire opening seem like a hypocrisy. Forgive me if I'm being dense, but I don't see how you can say you're disappointed with great lyrics, great vocals, and great instrumentals - even great melodies and hooks. In a sentence prior to that you say the electronic instrumentals look dead, soulless even. Secondly, we can't go back and have Swine reproduced and Sexxx Dreams made to be more grung-y. As far as bringing Gaga back to the top - every artist is entitled to peaks and valleys in their career. Not everyone can be Katy Perry and I'd certainly much rather have an artist to support than a manufactured pop star. I'll take my handful of #1s and ice bucket challenge grabbing headlines over bubblegum, shallow visuals and a bland discography anyday. Is ARTPOP her best album? Absolutely not. I do agree with much of what you've said - ARTPOP is here and there and over there, at times overproduced - also keep in mind we were supposed to get ARTPOP in late-2012 or early-2013, but with nearly an extra year to work on it, it was bound to turn out the way it did. I love and enjoy ARTPOP immensely, I just wouldn't go far as to say everything it takes to construct a song is great as a follow up to being disappointed. ARTPOP was meant to be "less mature" than her previous efforts as I recall her saying and I think the intention (not the original 2012/early 2013 concept) was to make it that way. All over the place and just fun. ARTPOP gave Gaga a chance for catharsis and it shows. I think the only "dead" song would be Swine. She should have included more vocals with "rage" imo. The rest of the songs are fine with me.
Bordeciel 323
I just read the first sentance and I can already tell that I 100/100 agree. If I picked songs from ITunes Festival and other lives, ARTPOP would me my fav Gaga's album. But with the studio version it's my least favorite. I really don't like what she did with songs like Swine, ARTPOP, MANiCURE or Sexxx Dreams. The real problem of this album is the low production and mixage. The melodies remains great. HANZ 4,380
also the MANiCURE studio is an abomination compared to the MANiCURE in the Swinfest the "can you feel it X3" is so annoying meanwhile the MANiCURE at the swinfest was more rock and her vocals slayed and I agree with you that the Sexx dreams would be better without the "you were in my" and don't make me start with dope cause IWBWY>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dope My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

Dr Rogoe 23
Live >>>>>>> Studio Always. So it is unfair tbh
EdgeofTeeth 1,934
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. ARTPOP might've been my favorite Gaga album if the studio versions captured the magic of the live Swinefest performances.
Leeo 2,366
tbh... The best thing she did with Swine was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8urbbm2oFo LOOK AT THIS ****ING BEAT AND HER SCREAM AND "**** YOU POP MUSIC, THIS IS ARTPOP, FREE YOURSELVS". I CAN FEEL IT
Interludicrous 15
The thing with Swine is that it sounds very choppy and overly clean on the album. Neither the synths nor the vocals have any flow to them. But for the rehearsal video's all the sounds blended together, which created an amazing flow. It's a great song and the production has great potential, but to me it just sounds very unfinished and empty. That said, I still listen to it every day
Jay.P 2,336
Live versions are always better than the studio ones. This time we got to hear the live versions first and that's why you think the songs on the album are missing something. I mean, listen to any of her concerts' live versions, they're amazing. Do you hear that? It's poison.
freebit 6,240
I remember ARTPOP ( the song ) having that dead feeling you describe. The only thing the album version has over the live version are those building beats in the beginning that make you feel like something epic is about to happen. This is why I'm not too worried about her allegedly wanting to record without auto tune from now on. As long as she doesn't purposely go off key or vocal fry her voice it's all good. Her live vocals slay her studio ones as Swinefest has demonstrated.
Pluto 776
That's why iTunes festival with all new songs was a bad idea. I personally think the vocals were poorly handled with this album, like they thought the instrumentals were more important. anybody knows you can conjure anything by the dark of the moon
Leeo 2,366
Also, not only ARTPOP but there are SONGS wich are better on LIVE than STUDIO, also the reverse (better on STUDIO than LIVE) Teeth, Swine, MANiCURE, Jewels N' Drugs, Dope, Highway Unicorn... They're kinda better on LIVE than on STUDIO. but Electric Chapel, Heavy Metal Lover, Telephone, and more are better on STUDIO (Usually, when the song is REALLY HEAVYSICK BEAT it sound kinda strange in LIVE) And there are masterpieces that works in BOTH: ARTPOP, So Happy I Could Die HAHA <
Jewels n Drugs 4,629
ARTPOP is very... shallow to me. I don't even listen to all but like 3 songs from it anymore. Its kind of boring to listen to now a days, like it has no longevity oh look when you werent looking my motorcycle turned into a piano
