Miracle 14,068
When I listened the first iTunes festival rehearsals I thought ARTPOP was going to be the most experimental, raw and true album. The synthy burlesque vibe of Sexxx Dreams got me like crazy, Swine's realness captivated me and I loved the pin up influences on MANiCURE. But then, when I listened to the album, I kinda felt, dissapointed? Well I don't know if that's the right thing because the songs were great but I was expecting them to be more crazy or more sensual. But when you listen to ARTPOP album, you don't really get to enjoy it. The electronic instrumentals make the album look dead. It doesn't feel like it has got a soul. The lyrics are great, Gaga vocals are great and instrumentals are great. Even the melody are really great and she got a lot of hooks. But I don't like the fact that ARTPOP is FULLY electronic. Her past albums have always been electronic, but they have had heavy metal, gothic, rock, glam influences. For example, the iTunes festival version of Swine got me really emotional and the album version felt like a remix of a heavy song by a DJ. Same with Sexxx Dreams, they turned the s-xy synthy masterpiece into a catchy pop song. I really missed real instrumentals in the album. It all felt so fake, loads and loads of production layers over the original song sound (turning Swine into a heartless dance song was one of her biggest mistakes lmao) Do you get my point? I don't really know how to explain it. I mean, DJWS production is flawless and I love his trappy beats but I feel he's more of a TRAP DJ REMIXER than a THEATRICALPOP producer. Well, he gave us the best production of a Gaga song (DWUW) but her productions on ARTPOP felt dead. I'd really like to see Swine produced by Madeon and Sexxx Dreams produced by a grunge producer. Sexxx Dreams actually had the potential to bring Gaga back to the top, but they really ruined it with those (you were in my).
SEANGT 5,296
you just prefer live instrumentals to electronic ones. It doesn't have as much to do with ARTPOP as it does your preferences. lol. I like both pretty much the same
zexion_armando 241
ARTPOP is very... shallow to me. I don't even listen to all but like 3 songs from it anymore. Its kind of boring to listen to now a days, like it has no longevity
BillieGOAT 5,216
Honestly yes. It lacks something I can't put my finger on..
HANZ 4,380
the thing is that gaga is one of the few artists that actually sound better live than in the album when will your favs and their dying cat voices? My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

Benji 20,113
I agree, Swinefest had me so pumped for the album and then it felt like the songs had their soul ripped out when we heard the album. ARTPOP's production to me is pretty flat and dull, nothing really happens.
Morphine Prince 106,075
I think the only "dead" song would be Swine. She should have included more vocals with "rage" imo. The rest of the songs are fine with me.
FKAJAKE 5
idk for some reason swine and gypsy sound really bad quality to me. Like gypsy sounds like it was recorded with a potato, and the production for swine and donatella feels paper thin. It's hard to describe what I mean bcos I love those songs so much, but they sound like rough demo takes to me I remember once when gaga said that the songs were recorded in makeshift studios in a hotel, but we should worry because it wouldn't sound like that, well that's kinda what it sounds like to me. glockenpop 1
My friend hated the album until she came with me to artRave, which shows how dead it is really. :(
Pitch 204
I dont really like the poduction on ARTPOP, it feels really clunky, loud and demo-ish, so i agree with you LADY GAGA/madonna/katy perry/little mix/ariana grande/selena gomez/britney spears/taylor swift
amazinglyjon 264
Completely agree with you. Most of the songs do sound kind of flat. I think she should have made the guitars and percussion more prominent. Live percussion always brings a track to life imo!
mic 1,415
I agree that swine needed some real instruments and is not crazy enough in audio. Overall I was shocked that only few songs are crazy/hardcore. I imagine ARTPOP as raw EDM adventure, aura leak made me believe it is going to be true, but then... It turnt out to be mix of styles. Disregard 50
Live instrumentals are almost always better than their respective studio versions. Doing Swinefest before the release of the album was such a huge mistake tbh because it was like giving the fans a preview of lossless versions and then releasing 128k mp3s. XoXoJoanneGaga 629
Definitely, most of the songs are missing the IT factor. That degree of atmosphere and/or emotion that takes a song to the next level. It's been drained out of almost every song. Gaga sounds bored most of the time and the songs feel kind of empty.
