Last three albums: 207K, 198K, and 238K.

These albums also ended up at 5.7, 4.5 and 3 million worldwide. I would say she is an album seller. :)

an album seller that has 7 albums and only one of them went #1 :rip: such a album artist

What does that matter? Rihanna was releasing an album every year and during Black Friday week, which has extremely stiff competition. If she had taken two or three years between albums and released her last three albums in June or even September, she would have easily had three number one albums.

We have artists that get less than 100K for their opening week and get a BB #1. That is due to timing and it doesn't make that person anymore of an album seller over an artist who is selling 200K the first week.

More importantly, Rihanna's last three albums (released every year) have all ended up platinum and selling 13 million together worldwide. That's selling close to 4 million albums in the US and 13 million WW in a three year timespan. Not many artists can do that.

Rihanna is an artist who is selling albums. If Ariana can get to a million and 3 to 5 million worldwide, she will be the same.

Dangerous Man

Justin Timberlake: 20/20 Experience

Taylor Swift: Red

Pink: Truth About Love

One Direction: Up All Night

One Direction: Take Me Home

BEYONCE - Beyoncé

Next up: Taylor Swift and Adele :)

My bad, but the only pop album you listed is TTAL. But for chart sake it had been discounted many times more than ARTPOP.

One Direction is an exception coz they are bands not solo so they are not comparable to any of these solo artists.

Red is still considered a country album.

Bey and JT are for hiphop/RnB.

You never said solo. All pop albums are discounted. Just wait, Ariana's will be several times as well, and one day it will end up free or close to it on Google Play, or some service like that.

Red had more Pop singles than country singles and had two Pop #1s. Swift's past music crossed over from country, but it is mostly Pop in the past few years. Her singles now start out on Pop first. Beyoncé and JT are not hiphop, :fail: but they are Pop and R&B. JT had singles that started off on Pop from 20/20 and so did Beyoncé to a smaller extent. Pop is heading back in the R&B direction and it has been for over a year, which should favor Ariana.

For the amount of hype she has, and the fact that artists and songs that have an R&B crossover Pop sound, have been gaining popularity...I would have thought Ariana's opening would be a bigger jump from her last opening.

I get why fans love to boast about the sales of their "fave," but I hope everyone realizes that album sales are VERY quickly becoming obsolete. Like in a year or two I can see albums by the the biggest artists (maybe even Gaga included) debuting at #1 with less than 100k. Actually, now that I think about it, a few big-name artists this year already have... :spin:

Gaga was so right in the SXSW interview where she said that record companies don't have nearly as much money as they used to...they're lucky if people even legally stream music, but the money pulled in from streaming is so negligible. We're gonna either laugh or cry when we look back on the days we made fun of artists for selling just under 300k. (We'll probably cry cause there'll be no money left for high-budget videos or performances.)

this. a lot of artists are having problems selling much these days. at least it better than her debut tho

But the point is Ariana isn't yet an established artist in terms of selling album so? Not to mention TFM debut sales. Lol.

Don't insult bands.  LOL They are not a band.  They are a boy singing group, thus boy band.  A real band has musicians.  They are a pop act and that's where they have to be lumped for sales, against pop acts, I guess, but definitely not in a category with  Muse, Coldplay, U2, Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire.

They are called Boy Band to specify. Do I need to specify more? They are pop boy band. Idg why calling them band an insult but okay if ppl are too sensitive on that then i'm sorry.

This. This fanbase always compares Gaga's past achievements just to degrade an artist and they never learn. I just remembered that time when they were dragging Katy for only debuting less than 400K for Prism lol.

Can't speak for anyone else, but that wasn't what I was saying, as I didn't compare Ariana to Gaga. Just to herself. I expected a bigger increase, due to her having 3 songs in the top 10 already, her promo that has had her everywhere, and the hype she has at the moment. It seemed like the perfect situation to go into a debut week.

Album sales are getting worse and worse, though, so maybe that has a bigger impact than anything at this time. Sales are at an all time low and they keep getting worse.
