For me, personally, the passion in her eyes, in her voice when she spoke about this record slowly dwindled away as the weeks passed by. I honestly feel that her pride was the reason this record happened - she wanted to prove herself so much after the injury. Plus given the fact she'd announced it way back in August 2012, she probably felt somewhat obliged to put out the record, no matter how much pressure or artistic censorship she was under (and we've had several cases of censorship); she seemed to be so passionate about the record up until she started promoting it.

I think if she'd have just fought a bit harder, which I know is difficult to do in the industry, and I'm not trying to get her down here, things would have turned out differently. Not in terms, necessarily, of commercial or critical success, but in artistic freedom and success. She can't have just suddenly realised Troy was (apparently) toxic a week before the LP's release, but whether or not she was scared of being without him for her "big comeback" we'll never know. I wish she'd also had more confidence in herself and team - maybe she then would have felt strong enough to part ways prior to the full beginning of the 'era'.

The fact that the record also changed so much - sonically - from what a lot of people seemed to be expecting, and, for whatever reason, rather than share with us this ARTPOP material which clearly meant so much to both her and the producers with whom she collaborated, Gaga has made the decision to almost move on, for better or for worse.

You can tell she really loves some of the songs on this album, and is passionate about her art, but the fire seems to have died a long time ago. Now, with 'Cheek to Cheek' coming, and the possibilities of an acoustic album, we may finally get to see Gaga the artist flourish fully at last.

Born To Slay

She should've released ARTPOP as 2 disc album with 15 songs on each.

No. But she needs to shelve her basic fans who can't move on from her past albums.

No.

I'm so sick off everybody just wanting MORE MORE MORE.

Adding more tracks wouldn't have made the album more successful or more praised by fans or any less polarising.

no ARTPOP is f*cking amazing.

everybody needs to listen to it objectively, detached from the stigma, the chart performance, the mishaps throughout the era. it's a great album full of diverse tracks and it should not have been shelved.

Yeah im getting so sick of this forum...

Can people stop bashing it ffs?

Some of us love it more than the overrated TFM and Messy-Preachy BTW :manicure:

Deal with it :awkney:

An album filled with jazz standards as the follow-up to BTW? No, thank you, especially after the BTWB Tour cancellation. It'd be a slap in the face for those who have waited for new, all-original music material from her. However, if she opted for a genre aside from EDM as the overall sound of her next record after BTW, I won't have a problem with it. A rock-influenced album or an album full of power ballads could have been a great follow-up to BTW. It's more likely to be universally appreciated as opposed to a mere album of jazz covers.

I just wish there were more songs. You don't state that you wrote 100+ songs and then not release/leak a few. But I'll just be grateful, cause we still could have been waiting for something to release

But if ARTPOP had been shelved, then we wouldn't have got amazing songs like, Aura, Venus, G.U.Y, Sexxx Dreams, Jewels n' Drugs, MANiCURE, Do What U Want, ARTPOP, Swine, Donatella, Fashion!, Mary Jane Holland, Dope, Gypsy and Applause. I'm not sure I follow your logic.

No. Honestly and personally, it's my least favorite album but I'd still rather have the album happen than shelved...and go though a longer hiatus including a jazz album that I'm barely excited about. I've learned a lot more from my experience of being a Gaga fan this era and I probably wouldn't have had the chance to see her live this month.

If she truly believes in her work for ARTPOP, she should keep her creativity going, not scrap it. She wouldn't put out something that isn't true to herself otherwise.

Another thing, just because I stan for BR doesn't mean I'm stuck in the past  :manicure:

What I disliked about AP was the fact that Gaga was forcing her own vision of art; art is making people see something that isn't really there, as a result the whole thing felt artsy and meaningless. I think the album name was a mistake and a turn off for many. Maybe shelving it was better because ARTPOP is musically also very poor, there was simply nothing revolutionary to it, it was a brand looking to become THE brand of pop.

Now Gaga really needs a TFM 2 to impress the world.

She definitely should've released it but there are elements of time and promo that could've been better
