Stefan 0
no. No one cares for it except us. Honestly, ARTPOP didn't bring much into the table, she hyped it a lot but nothing ever happened. Pretty much. You guys need to stop thinking that everything Gaga does is gonna go down in the history books, develop some massive cult following, or be the huge smash you want it to be. Some **** is forgotten. This era will hardly be anything more than a footnote in pop culture.
Emvee 8,412
ARTPOP started in 2008 and you can see it's influence on pop music through Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj (before), and the other pop girls who suddenly began to incorporate more stimulating visuals into their work. But, ironically, I think the actual album came at the ARTPOP movement's inevitable decline in the mainstream. It was like a last hurrah. The whole industry played it out. ARTPOP will exist for as long as Gaga is GAGA. The problem is, nobody sees it that way. They associate it only with this album. Even the majority of the fans don't know what ARTPOP actually meant, which is sad. ARTPOP is, literally, anything from now till the end and can be associated with any album and any artist, at any time - past, present, and future. We will see ARTPOP in the future when a generation influenced by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry come to age as artists of their own right.
XoXoJoanneGaga 629
Look at Katy's new video. It already has. The problem is, I don't think people will acknowledge ARTPOP for having started this "art in pop" thing. Because she didn't, pop artists have been referencing famous art pieces forever. Look at the Gotye video, from 2011, that was art in pop. How about Kanye working with George Condo in 2010 Gaga basically made a whole era out of the idea of collaborating with famous artists, and standing infront of their art pieces in her music videos, but pop stars have been interested in this stuff for ages. Sure, Gaga might have raised the interest level a little bit, but she didn't start anything.
Anderson123 38,460
Many artists have "mixed art and pop" before, even Gaga. So I don't really get how Gaga says she's doing it now, I don't really see HER being the influence of this on other artists. Sorry but that "Art and pop could belong together" speech she said at the iTunes Festival made her look like a 12 year old girl learning to paint in school. I don't really get how this is the main theme of the album when she's smart enough to come up with something greater than that. Yes, the album is about many other things, but it's not just about mixing paintings and pop music or wearing a Mona Lisa dress in public.

That speech at the iTunes Festival clearly came from the bottom of her heart and it meant a lot to her. And ARTPOP has been what she's been doing her entire career but now she has made it her central focus. Like how she's been doing jazz since like she was 13 now she is making it her central focus. ARTPOP isn't just about mixing paint and pop. Whut? it's a movement. It's the movement she's been making her entire career. It's quite amazing actually. For Gaga and myself ARTPOP is the bridge between Pop icons and artists. Hopefully many years from now more frequent collaborations like this will be happening. Pop will no longer be seen as silly and childish. This of course isn't set in stone but I hope to see this. And Gaga has actually opened up to the GP that her career is ARTPOP. Before not many people would be on the look out to see her making art and pop come alive. And finally... The Mona Lisa dress... Does no one see the symolism in that? Gaga replicated the look... But still made it Gaga (with like those huge heels). She made herself the art. The artist of her own canvas (the canvas being her). ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

I've seen it because I've been a fan of her since that moment. It's a movement that she's been doing her entire career and I see that it's the main focus of this album, but I just think it's a downgrade of what she has done. It's like, after The Fame Monster and Born This Way, is this really what she's doing now ? I love Gaga, and I love her music, I listen to what she has to say and I see her talent. Her music is greater than what most pop acts do today. I did see the symbolism on that Mona Lisa dress, I get that she becomes the canvas, Applause music video and performances and all that. I'm just saying, that after "mixing art and pop" her entire career, she comes up with this concept now.. like, just this. I love her, but it's like she's playing with this album right now, like she's just having fun. The collaborations that she did with Marina, Jeff Koons, Inez & Vinoodh, the puke girl and everything else, it's a huge step for her and her career. I just think that the concept is not that INNOVATIVE for a Gaga album and that it gets boring after a while, that it's just nice for some little time but it gets boring after a while. Half of ARTPOP (the music) is a downgrade of what she has released in the past, but I guess it's what she's doing now and I respect that. I'm just excited to see what Cheek To Cheek will sound/look like, because I know she has the talent to do this. Sorry but, sometimes I think Gaga is a little pretentious. I believe in her and that she has a huge talent, but she really should show it and not talk about it. Let the music speak for itself.

I personally feel that this album is better than TFM and on parr with BTW. The concept though is my favorite of them all. I wish this era had actually been longer so I could see what new artists she'll work with and what new art piece will be her inspiration. :( But like I said... It's all a matter of opinion. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

I know, and I respect that. I see that a lot of people here love what she did during The Fame and say that's the time they loved Gaga the most, same with The Fame Monster. I have a really personal connection with Born This Way. Not only the message because I've learned to love myself years before that, but the music. I know Gaga is a popstar and she's going to release pop music (as of now), but Born This Way was such a different time for her, it was dark, it was weird, the imagery and music videos (Judas, Marry The Night), the album songs that weren't released as singles. Everything was just a mix of good and shocking but I loved that. I think her music was creative back then, I couldn't believe Gaga had released that mix of songs all in one album, etc. Like you said, it's all a matter of opinion. Bambino 24,290
I don't think so. She didn't invent the concept and somehow wasn't so successful at deliviering her vision to people. Even some fans still have no clue what the fuck ARTPOP is about.
Miel 15,009
Personally, no. However, I have a feeling that the nebulous concepts of ARTPOP might spike up a lot of intellectual interest when looked back, in retrospect. Like, when contemporary historians or students or whomever are casually skimming through Gaga's biography and discography, I think the whole "what does ARTPOP really mean?" debacle could spark up interest again in the future. I think ARTPOP, while not her best or most impacting album, is likely her most thought out and intellectually and thematically intricate album. I think because of that, there is a possible reigniting of interest sometime in the future. I'm not just saying this as a fan, but I don't think people truly understand/appreciate BTW's (and gaga's) impact on societal change. A lot has happened since 2008. Hell--even in 2009 it was still 'lame' to stand up for LGBT rights. What did gaga do? Crusade for equality--not caring if people would dismiss her for standing up for LGBT rights and causes. Gaga's contribution towards equality for all people, whether people acknowledge it or not, was a huge catalyst and impetus to make the world a better place, and that was further expanded upon with BTW--her 'preachings' sparked an unconscious movement. Gaga will do great things in the future and will no doubt have an influence on society and culture, but she will never top her impact on societal change, and I don't think that's a bad thing. I think my biggest problem with her 'ARTPOP' movement is that the stuff she is doing now, is the least 'ARTPOP' things she's ever done. She was more ARTPOP in TFM and BTW than she is now. I think that because she called this album ARTPOP, that fans are just calling everything this era as ART, and it just doesn't compare to things she's done in the past. The vessel, the paparazzi performance, the meat dress, even the lobster hat and Kermit dress, and fame perfume and campaign--all this stuff and any other trumps everything she's done this era. 3 points in and ready for more
PopBitch 1,218
Her music on ARTPOP didn't live up to the art as a body of work. It's just a pop album trying to be different but sounding basic with a few great songs that live up to it. That's the embarrassment of it all. In fact, beyond the amazing start off to the era with her iTunes concert which I loved the dark feeling to and she sang live more than she does even on this tour and showed why she's a standout, a lot of her other promo performances fell flat and not like they were from an edgy popstar. Her big concert with the flying dress was a let down. It didn't have the energy I thought it would after the great iTunes concert. I found her more married to art and the music worthy of it in her other albums and more videos that showcased her art. Hooking up with Koons isn't any big deal to me. Some of her previous videos and magical performances were art.But just my opinion. Others love the album and all of the performances. The tour is still great, though, but I don't ever think of it as art and pop, just Gaga in a lot of bright colors and almost Katy-Perry like at times with the candy-color look. I did love the energy of the concert, so it's all good for me.

heavyMetalGAGA 65
Yes, but she'll need people like she "created" in the G.U.Y. Video. People that love art, passion and spread love and kindness... We don't have a lot of people like that in the business right now :emo: I really appreciated that theme in the music video, however, I wish it was a little less nebulous. GagaDragon 10
ARTPOP gets way too much credit from the fandom. In the end if the music isn't good then you'll have trouble delivering your concept to the masses.
Tropico 4,145
I feel like Born This Way was more Art in Pop than ARTPOP "*insert noun* is more ARTPOP than ARTPOP" is just another ridiculous and stupid thing fans say to belittle ARTPOP. BTW wasn't even about art. It was about pop culture and changing it with her message etc. And everytime someone says TFM is more ARTPOP than ARTPOP I cringe. Like... I see very little to no art in Telephone video. It's a great video but... No. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
