Tropico 4,145
Does ARTPOP influence you? Does it make you more brave, stronger, etc.? No. Gaga has said it herself. Bad Romance, Monster, Speechless, DITD, So Happy I Could Die are all dark... So anything that doesn't make me brave is immature? Logic: undedected. And TFM is a bunch of love songs tbh. Bad romance and monster are far from dark... They're struggling relationship songs... Taylor Swift does that all the time... Does that make her dark too? DITD is darkish I guess. And SHICD is dark? WTF. It's a song about getting drunk and having a good time in the club. Every rap artist is dark too I guess. EDIT: Oh and by the way ARTPOP isn't immature at all. It's quite deep actually. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

I mean, you do realize SHICD is about Gaga fearing she might get ADDICTED to DRUGS and alcohol, right? Yeah I am going to leave it at that.

Gagz 2,579
Source? She said it in one of her concerts. She was talking about how she didn't want to "preach" anymore and that ARTPOP was going to come "from a more immature place." I don't remember exactly where she said it, but, looking at the thread, I'm not the only one who remembers it. I assume by "immature," she meant she made a few songs about d--gs and s-x, themes that were pretty much absent from BTW. She didn't mean the album was childish. So Happy I Could Die is about the fear of losing herself in indulgence. It's much deeper than just partying in the club. It's actually very tragic. But I still find MAJORITY of the songs on that album to be love songs. Not necessarily all cheery but not very dark. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
Didymus 34,379
Clearly there are numerous ways to answer. How does ARTPOP sound anything like The Fame? Your reply proving your own point?
djBuffoon 12,121
Your reply proving your own point? No, not really. I think VISION's goal was to begin a discussion, right? I've explained my answer to the original question, others have as well. And I'm asking Pop to explain his. Does ARTPOP influence you? Does it make you more brave, stronger, etc.? No. Gaga has said it herself. Actually, yes it does. "Gaga herself" said that the intention of the album was to ignite a creative spirit in the listener. So as an artist, that certainly qualifies. Zoey Brooks 0
And TFM is a bunch of love songs tbh. Bad romance and monster are far from dark... They're struggling relationship songs... Taylor Swift does that all the time... Does that make her dark too? Bad Romance is about the dangerous appeal of a toxic/abusive relationship, whether it be a romantic one or the more thematically-fitting relationship she has with the public as a celebrity Monster is about date rape - "I wanna just dance, but he took me home instead, oh-oh, he was the monster in my bed" Speechless is about the fear of losing a loved one Dance in the Dark is about self-consciousness and vulnerability, and how the media doesn't allow celebrities to have private lives Telephone is about Gaga's own obsession with her work, and how she can never stop thinking about it So Happy I Could Die is about hiding your vulnerability behind d--gs and alcohol, and how Gaga fears she'll eventually lose herself to the party life Teeth is about how people cover up the dark sides of themselves IMO Alejandro is the only 'love song' on the album and even that's about being hounded by your ex-lovers. TFM is a very, very dark album.
djBuffoon 12,121
Telephone is about Gaga's own obsession with her work, and how she can never stop thinking about it Teeth is about how people cover up the dark sides of themselves These are the only two I take issue with. As written, separate from any context that Gaga gave them during subsequent interviews, they are relatively lightweight.

djBuffoon 12,121
And Gaga also said that ARTPOP is more towards immature pop music. And songs like "Venus", "Donatella" and "Sexxx Dreams" do, indeed, have a sass and overall feeling of (perhaps a more appropriate word) irreverence about them. But that is not indicative of the album as a whole. Songs like "DWUW", "Swine", "Gypsy", "Dope", "Applause" and "ARTPOP", amongst others, are actually more revealing than they may seem on the surface.
