They think this can be used on the patients in Africa (as long as the man continues to recover). Nothing's confirmed, he's in treatment with a lot better medical care than he would receive in Africa and he's only one patient with a possible virus that's quite difficult to spread. The sanitation here is miles better than in Africa, so things like ebola don't spread nearly as easily. This isn't as big of a concern as the people in this thread is making it out to be. So they don't die. They don't have the ability to treat ebola correctly in Africa, that's why it's such a problem. Think of it this way: if it were you or a family member who had it, wouldn't you want them to have the best care possible? The patient is in a quarantined environment.
