SpaceAce 1,058
Yes I am aware of that just like anybody else in this fan base. For me critical success isn't important. I mean yes criticism is great so she can learn and modify what she needs to do with her work in the future but playing it safe will just be contradictory of what she has always preached about since the beginning of her career. I'm not saying she's playing it safe with cheek to cheek since its obvious she's really genuine about jazz music since her musical background includes jazz music but for fans to assume she's doing it to play safe is just silly and for them to want all the success that comes with the album is understandable but to depend on it is just completely ridiculous. Success for me is when a person is happy and has nothing to do with rewards and numbers. If cheek to cheek gets grammys then thats great for gaga but if it doesn't then that's still great and it shouldn't make people think any other way of the album. Playing it safe is the exact opposite way of how to get the industry's attention. She's working hard on this album and aiming high. Jazz isn't easy or safe in any way - especially for a popstar whose fans mostly just want her to release dance hits. My point is that she knows some success with the critics will go a long way - especially in boosting her self-esteem a little and getting her creativity going again. It's easy to fall out of love with what you're doing when nobody shows any respect for it. She can't depend on her fanbase for everything - especially bc it's so messy half the time. sorry to jump in but i dont really like when artist is playing safe and making basic music that everybody will like i am more for something new and good and i dont care if critics will say sh*t about it bit i dont care i mean its good to have critics suport but i am here mostly for good music... i didnt say that they dont have good shot but it still does not mean that will be nominated for grammys i mean i would love to but why getting my hopes up and if they don get nomination i will be just pissed and diaspointed so i am more i will wait to see what happends kind of guy :) There aren't a ton of jazz artists doing exciting things right now so I'll be incredible shocked if they aren't nominated in a bunch of categories. I meant that they have a good shot to win.

Now that I can agree on but it becomes very problematic when she constantly contradicts what she says a lot of the times. Like how she pretty much blackmailed and said she'll eventually stop and go back underground when in reality its much deeper within that. I just want her for once to say something clear and honest because for the past two years you can't really take her word for anything.

I usually take whatever she says with a grain of salt. Recently, it feels like she hasn't been able to make up her mind or is trying to hide the fact that she cares about how people view her. I mean, am I the only one who thinks it's healthier to accept that you care about others' opinions and try put any criticism or compliments into perspective in positive way, rather than act like a child and claim that you dont care? She makes herself sound like she's above criticism sometimes.

Criticism is good when its constructive and you can learn from it but it's good to ignore it when it's something completely irrelevant to one's work such as people calling her ugly, unfashionable etc. I do agree that she needs to stop hiding under her shell and acting like she's not insecure. Her emotions have been a rollercoaster the past year and she should just own up to it. A lot of also has to do with poor management making her confused on what people really want from her. I think that's really true. She looked pretty lost for the better part of last year.
Stefani328 321
Excuse me but have you seen some of her acoustic performances? Those S L A Y. The Edge Of Glory by itself is good vocals now Acapella or Acoustic SLAY. But obviously and as usual people put down pop and raise jazz. For me it's not the whole idea to put down pop music. Gaga makes electronic pop music and we have seen it oversahdow her vocals, not in every song but it tends to do so which is why you can really see her vocal talent shining through with her acapella and acoustic because it's just Gaga and her voice. This is very similar to jazz. People even give pop singers a reputation, which isn't fair because of the music they make. They just assume they don't have any talent especially vocal talent. Plus, I think Gaga needs to let go of the EDM sound. It isn't very popular anymore and it doesn't suit her like it once did. You can make pop music that isn't EDM influenced. I don't think it's the pop music people put down but the pop music that is EDM influenced.
derek4gaga 3
It could still be considered a side project since she's been working on it for two years, and it wasn't her primary project, ARTPOP. That doesn't mean she is not putting a lot of effort into it. She is putting a lot of effort into it but just over a longer period of time.

Ronk 14,762
I think it is probably a side project because her main focus will probably remain pop. She has been doing jazz off and on her entire career, most of it unnoticed, and I think she will continue to do jazz from time to time. She is so good at both genres, it's hard to tell what her future holds. I live outside the space time continuum.
Wet Fire 7,780
Neither Gaga nor I am treating it as a side project. It's one of the phases or eras of Gaga's career - her reinventive period. She loves Jazz and doesn't want to be remembered as only a dance/pop artist when she has so much to offer.
Andy McQueen 4,484
She can be both, Queen of Pop and Queen of Jazz tbh. It's obvious "Cheek to Cheek" is not "just a side project" but a serious album which I'm sure will be awesome.
Kermit the frog 1,921
I seriously believe that it became more than a side project because her own era did worse than expected. Maybe the album was pushed back so much for that reason? I often refer to it as a "side project" to comment on some of the fans treating this album as her "big comeback" (yeah right) that will make people fall in love with her again. I mean, no.
