That's you but not me because awards don't define an artists talent and gaga has made that clear many times. Even if Gaga left the commercial world and just made music undeground again like from 2005-2007 then I'll still be a fan because truthfully I like her "do it yourself" pop performances better. I'm not a fan of her "big stages, lightings, million dollar dresses" etc. I would rather her still make music like she does now. I like it better when she works organically and makes her own clothes/inventions rather than just wearing versace all the time.

 

We're not looking to "define" her talent. We're looking to gain the interests of people who don't have any reason to give Gaga a chance at this point. And trust me, most of the artists I love are either dead or retired - I couldn't care less about the big productions either. But she obviously does - she's based her entire career off of being a huge star. Would she be happy playing clubs again and not working with other artists at the top of their game? I really don't think so. She'd do it, but she wouldn't be satisfied.

 

Her fashion, her shows, her videos etc, there is no way you can claim that these things aren't important to her. Some of us would love for her to just sit her ass down at a piano for two hours but we all know that she's happiest doing what she does now and for it to continue - she needs to be in some kind of favor of the public.

Excuse me but have you seen some of her acoustic performances? Those S L A Y. The Edge Of Glory by itself is good vocals now Acapella or Acoustic SLAY.

But obviously and as usual people put down pop and raise jazz.

 

Omg child - I've seen all of them and my opinion stands. Go listen to clips from her show with Tony in Montreal -- Her voice does COMPLETELY different things with jazz. You can't even compare it. There are plenty of great pop singers and definitely not as many great Jazz singers and that's simply because jazz involves more technique and discipline.

And actually when people talk about her best "pop" vocal performances it's when she sits down to a piano and gives the songs a broadway/cabaret/jazz flair. It may not be obvious, but those elements are always present to some extent in her acoustic performances. It's why her teachers used to tell her she was "too theatre to sing pop" and "too pop to sing theatre." She mixes genres in her vocal styles.

They're still pop performances none the less. And her vocals don't always have to be like that. Like for example the Grammy's 2011. She SLAYED those vocals hiting grand notes.

No I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying but big success doesn't matter that much and that's fine because I really don't care if my personal preferences don't matter to anyone here just like anybody elses preferences really don't matter to me either. I want what's best for her too and yeah number ones and grammys are great but if she doesn't get them then it's nothing tragic because she's a millionaire and can still continue with her career. Many amazing artists don't care about sales and awards like bjork, florence and the machine etc and there's even artists underground who make music just because they get joy out of it like iamamiwhoami and all they ask for it donations rather than number ones, grammys , moonmans etc.

first about that vocal thingy just because she is singing pop does not mean that her pop songs cant have really powerfull vocals aand she proved that to us so many times speccialy when she is singing live.....

second basicly thiss album side project(for so many reasons) but i as a fan i cant wait for it.

Do you remember her saying all of the songs on the album were made to be radio hits? I do. Success and fame is nature of what she does. People don't have to love her but damn, they should at least be interested in her and recently, they're just not. I don't care that she's hated or unpopular right now - I just care that she keeps being given the resources to do what she loves. It doesn't matter if she's a millionaire when livenation cuts her tour down and she visits fewer cities, her record label cuts her budget for her albums, her ability to work with artists like Jeff Koons is gone, and icons like Tony Bennett aren't given the opportunity to see the benefits of working with her. She has all of this stuff now because for the last 6 years she's been building a name for herself, but if she lets the media and asshole critics tear her image and public perspective of her art down simply because "she doesn't care about the commercial world", then she can slowly say bye to all of it.

Yes I am aware of that just like anybody else in this fan base. For me critical success isn't important. I mean yes criticism is great so she can learn and modify what she needs to do with her work in the future but playing it safe will just be contradictory of what she has always preached about since the beginning of her career. I'm not saying she's playing it safe with cheek to cheek since its obvious she's really genuine about jazz music since her musical background includes jazz music but for fans to assume she's doing it to play safe is just silly and for them to want all the success that comes with the album is understandable but to depend on it is just completely ridiculous. Success for me is when a person is happy and has nothing to do with rewards and numbers. If cheek to cheek gets grammys then thats great for gaga but if it doesn't then that's still great and it shouldn't make people think any other way of the album.

sorry to jump in but i dont really like when artist is playing safe and making basic music that everybody will like i am more for something new and good and i dont care if critics will say sh*t about it bit i dont care i mean its good to have critics suport but i am here mostly for good music...

i didnt say that they dont have good shot but it still does not mean that will be nominated for grammys i mean i would love to but why getting my hopes up and if they don get nomination i will be just pissed  and diaspointed so i am more i will wait to see what happends kind of guy :)
