GagaSlayedYou 2
it would flop, but the performances, and the video the venus theme looked spectacular.
Born To Slay 10,996
less messy erawhether Venus flops or succeeds, we would have the video, proper performances, DWUW gets its own promo spot with performances, hopefully gets a (better) video too, the era seems less messy, Gaga may or may not go into pre G.U.Y. black out, G.U.Y. video is out, Gaga may or may not promote it, in case she does we would get proper and amazing performances or we would get ARTPOP at Jimmy Fallon again which I don't complain but overall the era would seem A LOT less messy without DWUW dramaThat's me hopefully thinking in a world that functions properly This
Vernier 3,786
Nobody outside of the fanbase even likes anything but the chorus. The verses and the bridge are considered embarrassing by anybody who isn't already a stan.This. I have no idea where this notion that it's s sure fire hit comes from :smh: Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
LittleBoot 27
DWUW had the most potential out of all of the songs on the entire album. It's just too bad it involved R. Kelly and Terry Richardson.
Morphine Prince 106,871
This. I have no idea where this notion that it's s sure fire hit comes from Ikr? I love the song but it SCREAMS flop.
monsterdreams 1,529
Would've had to see an amazing video that slays the world Not sure what AMA performance she would do with Venus Haters gonna need more than a flashlight for my shade
LilVenusian 579
It would have been a grower. People might have been weirded out by it at first but I think the the chorus and the crazy hooks would've won everybody over in the end, just like Bad Romance did. I also think everybody would've loved and quoted the "dont you know my ass is famous" line, not to mention the video was probably going to be a crazy feast for the eyes. All in all in think it would've had way more longevity and impact than Do What U Want, which was still a solid song but clearly over-hyped (like people were more excited about the unexpected collaboration or the fact that she was doing a mellow radio-friendly RNB song than they were about the actual song). Venus, on the other hand, has just got that classic gaga weirdness that the GP, and all her fans fell in love with her for, which I think would've made it more popular and memorable in the longrun. Supercarpet 106
Slaying the charts if Venus gets proper promo But not #1 hit worthy.Maybe it will stay on top 10 at most. I think DWUW would have performed better than Venus if it wasn't so messy tbh...
Omegahedron 190
We would have had an actual released video for the single, that's for goddamn sure. :reductive: I love the song, but my heart of hearts tells me that it would not have been a chart-topping hit, but with some extra promotion and the video I reckon it would have some cult / retro love that extends beyond this fanbase (a bit of a grower like Applause). It is a very fun song if you like high disco.
Laceface 2,964
It would have flopped so hard, DWUW was a moderate success even given it's circumstances.
Miel 15,009
The song itself is really, really weird, so I don't think it would have shot up the charts. However, as some people have said, I think it would make a decent top-30 number with the right promotion (maybe even top-20). Charts out of the way, I feel like so much of what Gaga envisioned would have played out. All considering that Venus was a last minute addition to the album, I feel like Gaga had so many ideas to tie into it (performances, videos, imagery, etc). 3 points in and ready for more
Pain of fame1 231
flop if DWUW flopped there is no chance for any other song tbh DWUW flopped? It is the song with more #1's on iTUNES, breaking the record adele had. It has sold almost 3M WW WITHOUT video
Omegahedron 190
DWUW had the most potential out of all of the songs on the entire album. It's just too bad it involved R. Kelly and Terry Richardson. I know, right. I wish it had been Christina Aguilera from the beginning. That duet makes so much more sense (aside from Christina singing about bones that we know to be Gaga's) - both have been victimised for their weight by the media, and pitched against each other in this perpetual diva-b---h-battle-circus that the celebrity music media and their allies perpetuate. It would have been a perfect flip-the-finger at their critics, and the message of this being about body and media criticism would have been a lot clearer to the general public (rather the 'Do What U Want' message being confused by the presence of one, then two, accused s-xual predators). Besides, I can't help that Troy was mainly behind R Kelly's involvement (no matter what Gaga says). Obviously, Gaga wrote the song as a solo, and it was then reworked to include Kelly (with lyrics that simply don't make sense in the overall context - why TF is he singing about having a busy schedule??)
