A fact about BTW and ARTPOP

I've said that about BTW in particular since day 1 (and this was one of my first remarks about it): that album is EXHAUSTING. I remember myself having a hard time listening to it from A to Z at the beginning, because it just drained me from all energy. This album just never stops, it's just great song after great song... and it's so rare to have albums that are basically packed with singles-worthy songs only. There's no break. There isn't one moment that feels uninspired. And it really is a noisy record as a whole - that's why I often say Gaga is to pop what metal is to rock. She's the heavy side of pop. Even though it's a pop album, BTW is as draining as a metal record.

It's also for all these reasons that, to me, it's my favorite album of all time.

I don't think it only has to do with good music alone( which can also be objective). I think it has more to do with the way these albums are created. The songs are very comples, they have complex intrumentals that stand alone and lyrics that need attention, debates and explenation. In BTW with every listen you find new things while on ARTPOP the heavy EDM with over-the-top lyrics draws all your attention. And I agree 100% about what you said about Gaga and BTW.

The elusive Princess Azula has spoken the truth :derpga:

I agree, I've always thought BTW was the loudest/noisiest album, but ARTPOP is loud too, just in a different way. I feel like these two albums were put together as entire pieces. She's said that ARTPOP is meant to be played start to finish, but I feel as if she put BTW together in the same way. They both flow very well. That may have something to do with it too...if someone just listens to one part of the work, they don't understand it or get the entire experience. I feel like that's more of the case with ARTPOP than with BTW, but I think it still applies to both.

TF and TFM don't feel like they were put together the same way. TF is obviously a bit front-loaded because it was her debut, and even though every song on TFM is flawless, I feel like the order doesn't matter and there wasn't as much thought put into the way it flows like with BTW and ARTPOP.

 BTW and ARTPOP have different philosophies behind them but they are both full bodies of work. Still they have a big difference. BTW i smore cohesive and many of it's songs can;t excist alone but fit perfectly and give life to the album while with ARTPOP most of the songs can survive alone as well as in the album. I think it hs to do more with the fact that the theme of ARTPO is much more loose.

I agree with Born This Way, there's so much going on and it's so loud you do need to give it more attention than a lot of music in a really good way.

ARTPOP is pretty easy listening though bar a few tracks (Aura, Venus and Dope)

EDIT - Isn't ARTPOP meant to be easily approachable and listenable though? It's a "party" album.

Well I guess I'm unique because I can play videogames and listen to ARTPOP at the same time.

I definitely see where you're coming from. Both albums are dialed up to 11, committed to their own unique lunacies, and imbued with these really aggressive and flat out amazing electronic sounds that you just won't find on top 40.

I tried doing my homework while listening to BTW and ARTPOP but I end up singing along and sometimes even writing lyrics for answers :toofunny:

That's something I miss from The Fame and TFM. Songs that you can just listen to while chilling.

Yeah, exactly how I feel about Born This Way. After listening to it I feel overwhelmed, whereas with ARTPOP it's the opposite. I feel lighter, it takes all the pressure off.

Despite these differences I absolutely love both BTW & ARTPOP. They are far superior to her earlier work on The Fame/Monster and of course both of them are quite risky. And that's why I think here some people were put off by BTW and now the same thing happened with AP. But this is actually what made me fall in love with Gaga -  her ever changing approach to pop music.

She takes a particular genre, reworks it so that it stays within the pop frame and the final result is a masterpiece that's hard to be matched by other artists. Born This Way as much as it is a dance record has that retro/rock vibe to it that just takes you several decades back while listening. And ARTPOP  - it's undoubtedly the best electronic album of its kind - just look at recent releases from the same genre (Britney Jean... WTF?! so boring, predictable & generic!). Please don't tell me ARTPOP  is generic because it's not. The music on it matches and even surpasses the one from some of the most famous DJs out there. When I listen to the instrumentals it's a whole new experience - rich & diverse.    And when you add the vocals of Gaga we get an album that no other DJ was able to produce with 10+ featured artists on his record...

She is not afraid to take risks and successfully delivers. A proof of this success is that both albums divided the fanbase and caused controversy. I mean with BTW & AP it's either hit or miss. Some people love it, some hate it. And this allows Gaga to add new people to the fanbase ( e.g. I am an ARTPOP monster...  :ohwell: ).

So yeah, let's enjoy her music & talent. I will be here for her as long as she continues to innovate and not be afraid to take risks. I don't want her to become a slave to the radio and create music that would be easy to like and praise just for the sake of it. Not following the rules is what made her what she is after all.  :queenga:

I can have BTW on in the background without any worries, but I guess it's because I've listened to it so much.
