What treatment?

Oh you mean an AMAs performance?

And a The Voice performance,

And an SNL performance,

And chatty man performance,

And X factor performance,

And a christina Aguilera remix

And a Rick Ross remix,

And a remix EP,

And more than 60m AI of airplay,

And it's iTunes top 10 exposure thanks to it being a promo single?

And controversial video that was hyped?

Yeah man. DWUW was so ignored.

Could've been #1 if only it had more promo :derpga:

Italized what isn't actual US promotion. The Rick Ross remix would've been promo had it not been for the fact that it didn't get send to radio. The top 10 exposure lasted only for 4 days, after that it failed to re-enter the Top 10. DWUW didn't get any club airplay, because it had no remixes out until like February 2014. The video was only hyped for the fans, and the controversy wasn't there till June. The airplay wasn't anything impressive, it should've gotten a lot more airplay.

What really made DWUW fail to enter the Top 10 is the fact that R. Kelly is in it, and people hate R. Kelly. And the bad treatment. The Rick Ross remix should've been sent to Urban radio, the R. Kelly version should've been the remix. The main version should've been a collaboration with a different R&B star, NOT R. KELLY.

The promotion was great, but Gaga barely had time to rehearse thanks to the ****ed up Venus-DWUW situation. The performances didn't have the full effect they could've had, because they were so awkward and not well-planned out (talking about the UK performances and the SNL performance).

The radio wasn't treated properly either: there should've been way more radio interviews and a big radio deal for DWUW, so it would've had a nice start and bigger support from the main stations. But sadly, that wasn't the case. It never got the big Rhythmic and HAC support it was supposed to get.

Then there's the international promotion and the Troy split... Oh lord. The international promotion simply lacked. She never promoted in Germany, France, Italy or Australia - which is a huge mistake.

And then there's the Japan situation: they should've released Gypsy as official single there in November, so the era wouldn't lose momentum. DWUW failed, because it's R&B which doesn't do well in Japan. Gypsy could've become another Top 10 hit for Gaga, but they let the era lose momentum which eventually made the album stop at 190k sales - while it could've easily passed the 250k sales.

In a country like Canada, it reached #3, because the R. Kelly controversy isn't as big there. Really shows how much that makes of a difference...

I get where you're coming from, I do. The promotion could've been a little smoother.

But I think in the end we can agree that the problem was with R. Kelly, which means it was a problem with the song itself. I think THEY found that out eventually, which is why we have an Xtina version, multiple solo versions, and a video that never fully saw the light of day.

R. Kelly's involvement turned a song that was more easily perceived as a song about perseverance and the media into a song that is now misinterpreted as being about s-xual molestation. Even the fans believe that now.

If DWUW was destined to be a big hit, it would've gotten into the top ten when it was at 60m AI and promoted on one of the most popular shows on American television. But it didn't. No amount if promotion would've changed that. Well, maybe the video release would have, but considering the snippets, it might've done the opposite.

Someone who makes fun of black people, wishes death upon them and promotes the KKK listens to Do What U Want featuring R. Kelly? Messy mess.
