Whispering

Well she doesn't really need to read the letters, and I don't think they are emotionally blackmailing Gaga into anything very serious.

I'm talking about the guy getting proposed to in front of Lady Gaga and a massive crowd. It just rubs me the wrong way. It isn't how I think proposals should be done. Getting proposed to would be a very emotionally intense moment as it is. It feels exploitive to do it in a situation like this because the person is extremely pressured to say yes in front of Gaga and an arena full of people.

If they say no, it is not only an awkward environment for Gaga and the crowd but it also leads to a lot of embarrassment for both the people involved in the proposal.

But other people may love to have a proposal in front of others, family or friends! Sure, it's emotionally intense, but some personalities crave and thrive in those situations. It's not exploitive for some couples, who are the type to want people to celebrate with!

These public situations are often between people who have already been discussing marriage for a while.

Plus, "yes" doesn't mean next month or even this year...it can mean several years from now. You can still have a long engagement, and even live together for a while, to make sure you are making the best decision.

It's a little different in front of family and friends, it's just not right to put that much pressure on somebody to say yes to what is supposed to be a life-long commitment. There are a lot of public engagements that have gone wrong and I'm sure there have been a lot more that have had to reconsider the engagement after the T.V cameras have been turned off.

It's just a bad idea.

I think it would set a bad precedent, just because people would be wanting to do it at every show, some just to get attention.

Dangerous Man

Maybe Gaga's team advice her not to let it happen? or maybe the guy realize something so he didn't pursue it?

anyway I'm kinda sad it didn't happen. :(

And there are a lot that have gone right! :)

If a person has been with another person for a long time, and they know that they both are the type of individuals that would love a public proposal, then they are making a good decision for the both of them. After all, shouldn't a person proposing marriage know the other person enough to know if the situation is something that they would look back on with fond memories?

You may have a certain way you would like a marriage proposal, due to your personality type, but there are other personality types that would love something like this! It's a bad idea for you, obviously, but it is not for some people!

Girrr

Too much generalization in this thread. I would hope this guy knows his partner well enough to know that he would enjoy it. I get that it's not for everybody. But maybe this is right for them. Bummer it didn't happen! Would've been so cute!
