Stans, by nature, have a difficult time distinguishing between great songs and great singles. Just because you love something doesn't mean everyone else will. That means that, in select markets, the song would have to be heavily altered/censored/not released at all 2. Half of the song is in a language that doesn't exist, and Interscope probably wanted something more singable, like Yuyi or Edge. 3. The song is a feminist anthem, so it would potentially alienate an entire gender. It would have trouble attracting a male demographic. Personally, I don't know why the song gets so much love. It's one of my least favorites on BTW. Maybe because I can't relate to the message. I wouldn't have made it a single, but it's impossible to say what would or would not make a hit. Why lose a whole market (Germany) when you can release a single worldwide that doesnt need special editing treatment for one country. I sort of agree with you. But remember that they released Y&I, a single pleasing almost only the US market, losing a lot of markets... so Scheiße could have been released as well.
