She was much more artsy during TFM/BTW than she was ever with ARTPOP. It actually put a Jeff Koons work of art to thousands of people all over the world, people who probably never heard of or seen a Jeff Koons piece. Just for that, ARTPOP has succeeded as a concept. ARTPOP could mean anything. There is no concept other than that. She wanted to create without barriers. This isn't TFM where she explores fear and this isn't BTW where she explores identity, fantasy, reality, etc. This is ARTPOP where she makes the music and art she wants, which is fun dance music that may or may not have artistic references. There are plenty of artistic references but artistic references don't make art. The art is in the process and presentation. Shooting at Hearst Castle, the album artwork, the launch party with the statues, Venus performances. Even though it wasn't resonating with people, I think she accomplished some of what she wanted to. Lots of people didn't understand the meat dress, or the telephone hat, or Jo, or the Alejandro video, or the Disco Stick, or the giant crystals growing out of her clothes in the early days, or the bones in her face for BTW, or the eggs in Bad Romance, etc. Gaga does LOTS of experimental things, and there are people who love or don't love every one of them, but I love her range of expression, even when it makes a mess, because THAT is really art. In a world full of artists who are trying to maximize their marketability to the GP, everyone is afraid to make a mess. Gaga isn't. Why is it that the negative dumbasses are always the first ones to post on every thread, but people like Sara post so rarely? Gaga deserves fans who are more open-minded. I think it's cool that she posted this, regardless of what you think of the album and how she followed this concept though, it's still really interesting that she chose to do this.
