You don't sound ignorant. You will never find a proper website to explain to you what really happened, most of the sites are Pro-Palestinians, and just hates Israel, and some of them tells another opinions. It's all about opinions.. I will try to find a neutral site for you to explain what happens..

Thank you. ^_^ Like it's been going on so long I don't even know where to start on the Wikipedia page. And I'm already bad with history.

Thanks. <3 Do you have a link or website that explain the conflict in a simple way? Wikipedia is too confusing with way too much information and Google only shows results about recent events. We never learned anything about this in school (thank you the Netherlands) so I'm curious to know what it's really about. Sorry if I sound ignorant.

This site explains what happened in the current war, and why it all started:

http://www.idfblog.com/operationgaza2014/

By the way, I know some people from The Netherlands, do you know what "Artquake" is?

Unfortunately I don't. ^^; I went to school in the Netherlands but moved out of the country right after so I'm not really in touch with projects they have etc. It looks like a great initiative, though. :) Why?

Since 1948 this happened

Gaza is that tiny part of land in green on the coast, other green area is West Bank. Hamas won the elections in Gaza 2005, Palestinian Authority(West Bank) and Hamas wanted to unite governments, Israel PM didn'tt like that so he found a pretext to war, first it was death of 3 Israeli teenagers, even though it was a lone cel they blamed the Hamas, they arrested and harrassed 700 Palestinians, 6-10 people were killed, they tried to provoke Hamas. Hamas was holding fire but other fractions didn't. So that was another excuse to bomb houses, hospitals, refugee centers, schools, children on the beach. And then they needed excuse for ground invasion - the tunnels, which Egypt succesfully blocked without killing people. Israel imposed blockade and siege on Gaza since 2005, they control how many calories Palestinians can eat, they control their waters - fishermen cannot work/feed their families, they control their airspace, Gaza is not allowed to have seaport, airport, thousands of wounded children and over 450 dead could have been evacuated, treated abroad, but Israel sealed their borders. They bombed their power plant, electricity and water cut are daily life there and now deseases are spreading, medical staff doesn't have enough sterile equipment.

Sorry for typos, I'm on my phone.

On July 8, 2014, following incessant rocket fire from Gaza at Israel, the IDF initiated Operation Protective Edge. On the 10th day of the operation, after continued terrorist assaults on Israel from land, air and sea, the IDF commenced the ground phase of the operation.

Hamas’ vast underground tunnel network in Gaza enabled the terrorist group to infiltrate Israel and ambush civilians and IDF soldiers. Eliminating this threat was a primary objective of Operation Protective Edge.

From the beginning of 2014 until the start of Operation Protective Edge, Palestinian terrorists in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip fired 450 rockets at Israel. Millions of Israelis were living under fire.

Hamas’ strategy involves forcing Gaza’s civilians to serve as human shields. The terrorist organization deliberately places Palestinians in the line of fire in order to exploit civilian casualties in the international arena.

The IDF’s Efforts to Minimize Civilian Casualties in Gaza
While Hamas places Palestinian civilians in the line of fire, the IDF makes a great effort to minimize harm to civilians in Gaza. The IDF’s actions go beyond its obligations under international law.

Hamas Weaponizes Gaza’s Civilian Infrastructure

While operating to eliminate threats to Israeli civilians in Gaza, the IDF found that many civilian structures and areas had been booby trapped and/or contained large stockpiles of weapons.

Hamas’ Disregard for the Laws of Armed Conflict

Hamas’ tactics are simple: fire rockets from residential areas. Store weapons in mosques. Hide in hospitals. Use ambulances to transport fighters.

Hamas’ Tactics Exposed

Hamas endangers Palestinian civilians and lies to the world about its accomplishments. During Operation Protective Edge, more than 200 rockets fired from Gaza crashed back into Gaza.

Shuja’iya: A Hamas Terror Fortress

Hamas turned the Gaza City neighborhood of Shuja’iya into a fortress for its weapons, rockets, tunnels and command centers. Hamas exploits the neighborhood’s residents as human shields for its terrorist activity.

Humanitarian Aid

Throughout Operation Protective Edge, Hamas never ceased its rocket attacks against Israel, including near the border crossing, endangering the lives of workers who enable the transfer of goods. Nevertheless, the IDF continued to facilitate the transfer of supplies such as food, gas and medicine to the civilian population in Gaza.

He tried to make it simple for the people in Europe to understand what means living under siege.

Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip live in an odd and oppressive limbo. They have no nation, no citizenship, and no ultimate power over their own lives.

Since 1967, when Israel conquered these areas (the final 22 percent of mandatory Palestine), Palestinians have been living under Israeli military occupation. While in some parts Israel has allowed a Palestinian “autonomous†entity to take on such municipal functions as education, health care, infrastructure and policing, Israel retains overall power.

According to international law, an occupying force is responsible for the protection of the civilian population living under its control. Israel, however, ignores this requirement, routinely committing violations of the Geneva Conventions, a set of principles instituted after World War II to ensure that civilians would “never again†suffer as they had under Nazi occupation. Israel is one of the leading violators of these conventions today.

Israeli forces regularly confiscate private land; imprison individuals without process – including children – and physically abuse them under incarceration; demolish family homes; bulldoze orchards and crops; place entire towns under curfew; destroy shops and businesses; shoot, maim, and kill civilians – and Palestinians are without power to stop any of it.

When a child is arrested, for example – often by a group of armed soldiers in the middle of the night – parents can do nothing. Knowing that their son is most likely being beaten by soldiers on the way to the station, stripped and humiliated in prison, quite likely physically abused in multiple additional ways, and destined to be held – perhaps in isolation – for days, week, or months (all before a trial has even taken place), parents are without the ability to protect their child. Quite often, in fact, they cannot even visit him.

As you see, the haters keep lying..

The Hamas (a terrorist organization who controls Gaza) kidnapped 3 Israeli teenagers and killed them. And that happened in 2014, not 2005. Hamas was shooting rockets at southern Israel through the years non-stop, and once they shot a rocket to the center of Israel, Israel decided to bomb them back. You probably ask yourself, how did they bomb and where? Let me tell you:

The IDF bombed schools and a hospital, an empty hospital, that were covering ammunitions and weapons under them. Hamas uses public places to hide ammunition.

Hamas built tunnels under Gaza Strip's ground, so they can pop out of the tunnels and ambush citizens and soldiers and kill as many as they can, so the IDF bombed these tunnels, and no citizen was hurt in the tunnels bombing, only terrorists that killed soldiers.

Israel provides to Gaza electricity and medical help all the time, but the Hamas shot a rocket on the power plant of their own, and they destroyed the Gaza's power plant, and now Israel needs to fix this so Israel can help Gaza's people again.

And the IDF never arrested children.

Ah cool, hope you had fun. :)

So I'm reading up about stuff etc.

About the Palestian map of loss: didn't Israel win control over the West Bank and Gaza in 1967 and then returned it to Palestians?

It's so sad both sides couldn't just be satisfied with the way the state was separated for the Jews after WW2. :( I mean I get both sides... It's the Jewish homeland but was inhabited by Palestians for a thousand years or so. I know it's not practical but instead of fighting over land they could've just build a shared government and worked on their economy together? Dunno. :x

It's pretty ridiculous the Hamas are hiding military supplied at civilian places in the hopes that Israel won't bomb it btw.

Oh isn't ISIS going to get involved with this at some point? I was just talking about the conflict with my family and they brought up the issue that ISIS could get involved after they're done with their current conflict. xD

This was never proven and you see in Israel there is this kind of media blockade, people like Noam blindly believe what their government's propaganda machine says, they don't check the facts, they don't read both sides, they don't search the internet, they try to cover up all their mistakes and put the blame on someone else.

Before those teenagers/settlers were killed, israeli force killed 2 Palestinian teens on May 20th and were caught on CCTV

There is no Hamas in West Bank but they just recently shot 11 year old boy, he's one of many victims of their terrorist forces.

This was never proven, foreign journalists never even saw Hamas and UN schools informed 17 times about their location to IDF and they still bombed it, it's a refugee center. They are child killers.
