Will Madonna controversy overshadow BTW?

People will remember it not only because of the controversy but because of the association of the phrase "Born This Way" with LGBT rights. You don't see a Pride Parade where that phrase isn't found somewhere.

Agreed. If anything, the entire BTW album would likely (if it isn't already) be more associated with the campaign for social equality, specifically towards the LGBT community, more than the Madonna comparisons which have started even since prior to the release of BTW itself.

No.

I think that the younger generation are simply more familiar with Gaga's music than Madonna's and will remember Born This Way as it's own work. The comparison will still be attached, but most people won't care.

This. In my school grade no one knows like any Madonna songs and no one in our school ever talks about her. Gaga on the other hand is always discussed for both good and bad reasons. :toofunny:

So no. It won't over shadow it. Mostly Gaga fans and Madonna fans still remember it. And when Madonna is dead no one will talk about that moment. There'll remember actual significant moments in her career.

Gaga's BTW is way more relavent now to pop listeners than Express Yourself. Waaaaay more.

Fixed for you :giggle:

I don't think it overshadows per se but people will remember that and the critics will remember the totally amazon $0.99 deal.

Slé MJ did indeed :legend:

The Fame and the Fame Monster is what overshadowed BTW. I kind of viewed the Madonna controversy as just being a footnote.

THIS. Agreed completely. No one in 20 years is going to be rambling on about how Born This Way sounds like Express Yourself. No one cares now, why will they in two decades? But when record reviewing sites dust off the old records for their debut's birthday, I think the Fame and the Fame Monster will be more talked about in the BTW review, than BTW, because quite honestly, they were better albums (imo anyways).

I was just reading a ten year review on Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance by Rolling Stone I believe. It was a really good article, but anyone who knows MCR knows The Black Parade came after Three Cheers and was much more successful then its predeccesor. So half the article talked about The Black Parade album when the article was about their Three Cheer's album turning 10 and THAT ALBUM'S review.

Gaga is going to overshadow herself on BTW.

this tbh, only madonna's fans are obsessed

Her fans are obsessed because Madonna is obsessed. Running around paying royalties every night on tour to play Lady Gaga's better version of your stolen song? Some queen LOL! Queen hypocrite!
