Omegahedron 190
It's down to perception and expectation. Katy is middle-of-the-road, below the level of general public interest, but above the level of simple passable success. If she does badly, she is not dragged simply because nobody expected very much from her and (to be frank) most people aren't interested in her. (Not dragging her - I simply think this is true, most of the public don't care about her - she is vanilla). Gaga, on the other hand, when The Fame and The Fame Monster came out, was like the second coming. People literally were gushing about how she had reinvigorated pop, that she was an amazing performer with real talent - the thinking man/woman's pop star. She was the first star of the twitter/youtube generation, but she equally reached out to an older generation of music lovers with her wry retrospective sound / aesthetic. Expectations were sky-high, in short. When she didn't meet them, it inevitably invited comments that her 'time' was over or in decline. Add to the mix that she is such a bold, outspoken artist, prone to outrageous statements in all sorts of mediums (and a marketing campaign for Born This Way that arguably veered too heavily to her younger teenage audience) she also began to alienate more and more people, and those people found more ammunition to criticise her with. Summary - Katy is not dragged because she is just average. Gaga was dragged because she did not meet the (huge) expectations of her, and also because her style and statements polarised people to the extreme. MahoTheMnstr 141
I wonder if this could be love We could belong together Looking good and feeling fine; I feel on top of the world Like Dorothy on her yellow brick, hope my ruby shoes get us there quick Put your hands up, make 'me touch Love me, love me please retweet Let me get you in your birthday suit, it's time to bring out the big balloons I feel my lotus bloom, come closer You're reading me like erotica; just when I think I can't take any more, we go deeper and hotter than ever before This goes out to all you people going to bed with a 10 and waking up with a 2 She can be my sleeping beauty, Imma put her in a coma You can do it both ways. Except Gaga is more explicit an actually says the words, the children (a big part of Katy's fanbase) don't get the lyrics like that... but they do know the word s-x, rich as piss and naked... FGGrayson 9,670
It soon will happen tbh CatyKats are the new "little haters" some catykats are talking **** about Uncle & Bday, the flop is coming tbh, one or two more albums & Katy's end will set us free 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻
Gagz 2,579
Except Gaga is more explicit an actually says the words, the children (a big part of Katy's fanbase) don't get the lyrics like that... but they do know the word s-x, rich as piss and naked... My point was that, when you strategically choose lyrics, it can go either way. However, I think Gaga's first 3 albums were more kid-friendly than Katy's first two. ARTPOP is the first album On which Gaga's been so explicit.

Elizabeth 450
Gaga's an easier target because more people dislike her anywhere so it's easier for people to believe the negative stuff about her because people are more likely to be 'looking' for negative stuff about Gaga in the media. Outside of the internet and in the "real world" I've never heard anyone have a really negative opinion of Katy, they either like her or are fairly indifferent whereas lots more people have very strong opinions on Gaga. I do also think Gaga is held to a higher standard.

She is one of the few acts that I really hate, and I'm not in the mood to explain the whys & whens that have made me feel disgusted about her, with the passage of time. I know a lot of poeple love her and that's ok, i just... 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗴𝗮 • 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 • 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲-𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗿 • 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻
