Wootan 0
Did you listen to the instrumental of the first video I posted? Balla Nation is, basically, Bad Romance's verses. Of course it had to be edited, but that's besides the point. The thing is: Madeon produced this instrumental, RedOne didn't produce Balla Nation. I did, and as I said, it's diffrent from using a whole instrumental. They edited the beat for the verses and created the chorus + bridge + intro + outro. Btw, I don't have problems with Gaga recycling or sampling a beat, but it bothers me to know there is almost nothing exclusive on ARTPOP...
Gov Hooka 8,008
laughing at all the pressed people on here, if only you guys knew how common this is. Don't even get me started on how Michael Jackson has done the same thing for Thriller, Rock With You, Off the Wall, I just can't stop loving you, Man in the mirror. probably not a direct recycled and with obvious reworking, but this isn't that uncommon especially for pop artists. Give Gaga credit for writing melodies based off of instrumentals that work great and sometimes better than the intended demo and song like Donatella and Aura. It's not like Gaga is a complete hack at making songs. but it does show that this album doesn't stack up to her other albums like BTW and TFM
RBNLM 1,640
don't forget that ARTPOP concept changed after the hip issue, and songs like brooklyn nights sire princess die were supposed to be in the Album...The original idea of the album was meant to be a sequel of the fame monster, talking about the dead legend like marylin michael jackson ecc ecc ecc...then something happened and all changed...i'm sure there's more that we don't know about troy... Born Brave 2,072
From Zedd in 2013 I was talking about the amount of MY tracks/ productions on ARTPOP. We worked on a lot of songs and I don’t know which of our collaborations are making the album; she is in creative control of that decision. I never said ARTPOP is “rough†of “far away from being finishedâ€! I was speaking about my own material with her and how we have to finish that up. I’m a perfectionist and to me everything that’s not perfect yet is “roughâ€, and that’s also why it’s going to be so good! "I've done a lot of stuff that's really outside of what I usually do. There was one song that started from her just giving me, like, 10 words to describe an emotion, and then I had to make this into music. It's been a very experimental way of approaching music." Read more" Zedd first met his Interscope labelmate at a London event in 2011, after label chief Jimmy Iovine suggested they link up. “We had, like, one minute to talk, and it was onstage while everyone was taking pictures and being really loud. She just said, ‘Let’s make music.’†Zedd promptly returned to his studio and put together a track that he thought she might like. “My manager played it for her,†he recalls, “and she immediately called Jimmy and said, ‘I want this guy to produce my album.’†
Gov Hooka 8,008
Gaga is more raw when she crafts the songs herself. Look at TFM. Now look at ARTPOP. Yeah... agreed
aaronyoji 2,007
That's sad. Who knows what else on ARTPOP was recycled. i think gypsy is a recycled version of this song some old pop star wrote called "Edge of glory" and "hair" ugh the nerve!! the redone curse tbh. She confirmed that "the decay of the pop icon" was never the backbone for ARTPOP, but a theme which would be featured on the album.
MonsterOfSpain 8,281
I remember that Gaga said she had chosen Zedd and Madeon, after hearing them, from the work that they had sent her, so the situation is actually different. Recycling should not be seen as "rag color" to the situation, but as an adaptation of something that had already been produced. This is not "i'm lazy" but " you guys have a potential with those demos don't waste them , we will give new life" Tell 'em

codymonster 8,488
Guys, she's said numerous times that this is how she makes music. She either writes the song first and hears the melody on the piano (Dope, Gypsy, DWUW, etc.) or hears an instrumental from one of her producers and then writes melodies and lyrics to go over top (Donatella, Aura, Stache, MJH, etc). No one should be MAD about this. Listen to Donatella and Karma Bitch by Anjulie. Same instrumental, but completely different songs. Gaga still plays a hugely important role in the creation of the song, regardless of whether it's a recycled beat. The fact that she CAN do this shows her talent. Where other pop stars have the songs made for them, Gaga can actually engage in a legit collaboration with her producer, hearing a groove and then creating her own song out of it. That's something that takes insane talent, and I think a lot of you don't realize that. Edited June 26, 2014 by codymonster

Magdalena 3
The more I listen to the MJH demos I realize that Gaga's vocals give live to the final version. And Zedd definitely makes amazing music, too bad he re-uses old stuff he did but admit, this is amazing.

LaXian 25
I'm not against sampling but I don't like recycling al that much ... doesn't seem like Gaga, but let's be honest, Gaga is not the first nor the last artist that uses recycled instrumentals, I'm sure we'll find a lot of cases if we really do our research so let's not bash ARTPOP now, to me it's still the best Gaga album to date, recycled songs or not ... Some of you are being bandwagoners now ... STOP, it's raining hypocrites, yeah their recycled but it's not like Gaga was all "let me recycle some old instrumentals because I'm lazy" because that is some sh*t to the bull, she's still one of the most hard working artists and she has the bank balance to prove it ...
