CONCEPT IDEA: What if Gaga did an ironic era?

well she can still promote with performances you know ...  she didn't do that many interviews with ARTPOP and I highly doubt they helped much.

BEYONCE sold 2M with 0 promo I am sure Gaga can do fine with just performances and great material ...  It'd be interesting in my opinion if she just stops talking for like 1 year or even more..   and just smash etc.

The problem with Gaga's promo isn't that it's too much, it's that it's ineffective. People watch her interviews and they're so self-indulgent it makes them struggle to care for her. She talks big game no longer provides equally big music.

That's TFM though.

Pardon me, but I'm quite sure The Fame was essentially ironic, but whatever eh.

The Fame Monster was about fears that Gaga had discovered within herself since she had been famous. The Fame was about the feelings that she had towards fame before she ever experienced it. And although conceptually, her first album was about fame. There actually wasn't many songs about that topic even on the album. Paparazzi, BDR, The Fame, and Money Honey were the only songs that really dealt with the topic of fame. Starstruck didn't, even with that title.

The Fame was about the expectations of the industry from a popstar

This 'Sellebrity' concept is about the expectations of the popstar from the industry

That's exactly what Paparazzi was about.

But I guess it's ok to disagree... There is not just one interpretation about Gaga's past albums, but to me, the era you're describing was already made 6 years ago. Doesn't mean I don't respect your idea - I'd just expect something newer.

I don't see that as being what Paparazzi is about, but it's cool I guess we all have different views of her songs :)

Paparazzi is the ultimate ironic look on what fame is about. The very conscious fact that the blonde star has to die young in order to remain timeless. It's almost sociological. Gaga herself used to say during The Fame days that she was an expert in the sociology of fame - that's the very reason why I don't think your concept is particularly new.

Paparazzi was about the decay of an icon. Not the expectations of what a popstar should be.

Gaga did tonnes of interviews for ARTPOP. :toofunny: Probably somewhere in the 150-200 region.

Gaga and Beyonce are in very different places with the GP. Beyonce has a lot of loyalty from the GP, they look at her as being the ultimate popstar. And her album did so well because the surprise release was seen as something innovative and exciting, I don't think it will work again on the same level.

Gaga needs promotion and interviews to promote her music. If Gaga dropped a new album tomorrow without telling anyone, it wouldn't go well for her. Imo.

tomorrow ? Not.  But if she did it with ARTPOP it would've gone perfectly well.  Surprise factor always goes good with Gaga.   She spoiled half the album at the Itunes festival, she had problems with her manager etc. the lead single was not on par with her previous material ...  There are so many reasons of ARTPOP's underperformance ..  if it was a surprise release like BEYONCE it would've done 3 times better than it did.  Most of the negativity etc. around the project came with Applause being overshadowed by Roar.

Anyway no. I don't think Gaga needs promo.  I mean as you already said, ARTPOP had tons of promo and NOTHING.  Sometimes just a smash single on the radio is enough...

Gaga does need promo. Look at how G.U.Y. did without any. That song had smash potential written all over it.

Gaga is the type of artist who's success is based around her being a talking point and a shock pop artist, by her own admission. She needs big promotional opportunities like Grammy's, BRIT Awards, VMA's.

How would she produce great material though

She does not even release her best songs ;__;

I guess we just have different ways of thinking.  I definitely dissagree about GUY.  I love the song, it would've flopped no matter what.  Of course it could've had a better peak with a petter release schedule and promo campaign, but still would've underperformed.

Grammys, BRITs, VMAs are no platforms for interviews tho.  I already said that she has to perform her music, just no interviews, no information, nothing. I think it'd be interesting if she just has this type of blackout where she is active, she has hits, performances and wins awards, but she doesn't give interviews and information about her work and life.
