The difference is she went from being a humble artist who was very careful with her homages and made critically acclaimed works to a self-impressed pop star who was the most vocal about her least critically successful album being art. TFM and BTW eras were effortless whereas ARTPOP feels very try hard.

The ARTPOP era has still had its artistic successes, but she's lost the humility that made her so beloved in the first place and with it her artistic vision has been compromised. She's not letting it happen organically anymore. It's all very "look at me I'm an artist."

Every artist has periods that are more straining and forced than others. My only concern is she doesn't seem to be learning anything from this era. The more she gets criticized (rightly) the more she insists that she's in the right. The van Gogh tweet was pretty telling.

We'll see what C2C brings. I'm excited personally.

I agree with this, but I suspect she has learned a lot from this era. She's made it pretty clear how much the backlash gets to her. She hates being the punching bag of the pop world, and she thinks too highly of her own work to see it ridiculed and flopping. I'm confident she's going to do everything in her power to get back on top with the next album. Whether it succeeds or not is somewhat out of her hands though

Well she did change. There's something different about her. FameGa, for example, would never say some of the things ARTPOPGa said, but anyway. Not that it's a bad thing.

artists needs to change, or there'll never be good work coming out because it's just recycling old works (like what a lot of people is saying about ARTPOP's theme is like The Fame)

I don't know Gaga's mind or what's changed, but she is starting to recycle her old themes that's for sure. She has a few songs that talks about her relationship with the fans and boyfriend. This is a continuation of the theme Fame.

It's a struggle that artist constanly have: getting out of the comfort zone.

I'll be curious what she comes out next. Act II might still be similar to ARTPOP though....

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

Nah...I started hearing about how "pretentious" and "try hard" she was back during her days of the Alejandro video and meat dress.

By the time BTW came around, no one was saying Gaga was "humble" or "organic"...quite the opposite! Before and during BTW, all I ever heard was how pretentious she was and how she was "believing her own hype".

TFM was effortless because everything was new and exciting and most people knew very little about her. The more they knew, the more polarizing she became...due to the fact that more was becoming known to people outside of hard core fans. Gaga was always a polarizing artist, one who pushed an agenda during a time when many in the US were pushing back. She has strong opinions and ideas outside the norm on a variety of subjects.

Gaga is never going to be the pop girl that all the little girls and their mommies go see in concert and sing along to in their SUVs or the pretty pop diva that dates a rotating list of well known guys. She isn't the Pop artist that goes for all the latest hot collabs and uses the cookie cutter songwriters with the most popular producers.

Like Gaga said, she "came through Pop music", but she isn't the typical Pop artist.

She grew up. It happens.

"The most difficult task in your life is that you must choose to love another person and share your solitude with someone else."

This will become one of my favorite Gaga quotes ever, I see so much of myself in it. Thanks for sharing these videos.

I have this quote tattooed <3

Actually my point is this is what she's turning into. Most popular producers? You mean like will.i.am? Latest hot collabs? You mean like Britney Spears? She's one cookie cutter songwriter away from being exactly what you described.

This is like if I blame... idk, a commercial guy who calls to my door to sell me a vacuum cleaner saying me "this is the best thing you'll see in the market, there's no better cleaner than this one". That's what he has to do. And there's nothing wrong as long as that guy BELIEVES in what he is saying, if he is just saying it because he wants to fool me and take my money... that's really wrong.

He's a salesman who needs to sell a product. He is not an artist.

Do you think Andy Warhol went around telling everyone how good he was? No, because he let his art speak for himself, and when it did everyone knew he was good. It's not the mark of a true artist to not let the work speak for itself.

Gaga has grown as an artist and as a person. Monsters should stop being opposed to Gaga becoming a different person. And when I say this, her music may have changed, her clothes have changed but essentially inside she's the same girl. I feel a lot of Monsters should grow up as well and stop being so afraid of change.

You must be back a decade or so. The latest hot collab isn't Britney Spears and will.i.am isn't one of the current hot producers.

Call me when Gaga starts writing all her songs with two or three of the known songwriters of pop songs and when she has Max Martin and Dr. Luke produce her entire, or even a majority of, her album.

Gaga hasn't relied on professional songwriters, high profile collabs and the hottest producers for a majority of any of her past albums..

If she does decide to do take that approach in the future, that would be her choice, but she hasn't done it in the past...therefore she hasn't taken a traditional approach to Pop music IN THE PAST.

The whole "we want the old Gaga back" has been forgotten about ever since the ARTPOP era began though? so what are you fuzzing about :rip:

A lot of people still want the "old Gaga" back though. I keep reading posts from people who whine about how much they miss the TFM/BTW era and such :manicure:

Go check the thread about her IG Van Gogh pic.

Or threads of her interviews at the begining of the era.

I've reading the quotes I made on the OP for the whole era since August 2013.

i think yes of course she has changed because shes like 6 years older and has had new life experiences. she always says that shes always changing and evolving and that isnt a bad thing. I still think shes the same good person with the same intentions but of course she has new ways and artistic visions now than she would have in the past. think about yourself 6 years ago. ya i am the same guy at my core but i have different influences and driving forces in my life.
