Cupid 760
I think it has to do with the balance of it all. Gaga has always been preaching about ART and POP belonging together but in a smart, clever way. In her music videos we saw subtle hints and homages to other artists and she kind of "fooled us all". Pop is never low bow and she showed us all pop music do have depth without us really knowing it. But in this era POP has paid the price for her ART to shine, kind of. It has come out as she's a little girl yelling "mommy I CAN!!" - She's been able to pull this off from the beginning of her career, she just needs to find the creativity to execute it better. artpopmess 369
Nobody has watched these interviews tho On tv she was only talking about how Poker Face is about bis-xuality and now she's talking about how reverse warholian expreience is the answer to all of our problems don't follow my instagram (trying out reverse psychology)
Jjang 2,262
*The whole "we want the old Gaga back" has been forgotten about ever since the ARTPOP era began though? so what are you fuzzing about
HausOfGuy 10
its been 6 years of course she's changed. y'all forget that when she started she was just a young adult, its more than normal for a person to change.
Didymus 34,379
There is a difference. She delivered amazing art while talking about art. Now she's only doing one of them.
alposnacks 1
I'm sorry but she has changed. She used to wisely stay out of the pop culture arena while still dominating it. This era we got -Twitter begging for Applause receipts -Acknowledging Katy Perry/Roar at all when she would usually never deign to mention other current pop stars unless directly asked -Attempting to collab with Britney Spears. Not necessarily a bad thing but that's a step down from buying Edith Piaf samples to make a more timeless pop sound -Taking the bait and shading Miley Cyrus/Katy Perry on Twitter and responding to Adam Levine's provocation -Working with will.i.am when she could be working with any producer she wants She used to be above it all but this era she's really fallen into the very culture she used to be the queen of. Firestarter 0
one thing I have learned from being this woman's admirer is that there will always be drama around her. ALWAYS. which is great actually. all Queens of pop tend to have that in common

NewYorkCity 10,536
Wait wait wait people on this thread saying she has changed... of course she has. The content of the talk has changed, and she as a person has too. That's not a bad thing of course! But I'm not refering to that kind of change, I'm talking about people who think this art thing is new from 2013. She has always had art on her, has talked about it, has made referenced and watch the second video... yeah, she has been special talking about her own work. I'm not saying she's saying the same things over and over again, I'm saying that the art thing is not new.

I'm not saying she's saying the same things over and over again, I'm saying that the art thing is not new. The difference is she went from being a humble artist who was very careful with her homages and made critically acclaimed works to a self-impressed pop star who was the most vocal about her least critically successful album being art. TFM and BTW eras were effortless whereas ARTPOP feels very try hard. The ARTPOP era has still had its artistic successes, but she's lost the humility that made her so beloved in the first place and with it her artistic vision has been compromised. She's not letting it happen organically anymore. It's all very "look at me I'm an artist." Every artist has periods that are more straining and forced than others. My only concern is she doesn't seem to be learning anything from this era. The more she gets criticized (rightly) the more she insists that she's in the right. The van Gogh tweet was pretty telling. We'll see what C2C brings. I'm excited personally.
elijahfan 26,088
"The most difficult task in your life is that you must choose to love another person and share your solitude with someone else." This will become one of my favorite Gaga quotes ever, I see so much of myself in it. Thanks for sharing these videos.

I'm excited personally. well, first as I said this is not about what you are taling (which is a really great disscusion and I love it, you have really great points) Again, this is about people who think the art talk is a new thing, when she has ALWAYS been like that. And about her humility... ok I'm going to say it clear, watch the second video and tell me where do you find any humilty when talking about her inspirations or her art... And I don't see it as anything bad. When you believe in your product and (more important) when you want people to believe on it, you have to be like that. This is like if I blame... idk, a commercial guy who calls to my door to sell me a vacuum cleaner saying me "this is the best thing you'll see in the market, there's no better cleaner than this one". That's what he has to do. And there's nothing wrong as long as that guy BELIEVES in what he is saying, if he is just saying it because he wants to fool me and take my money... that's really wrong. Do you think that guy will call to my door showing me the vacuum cleaner and wait for me to pay for it? That's what people want from Gaga? She puts an album out and she has to wait for people to find the art on it? Why? She can and has every right to talk about her process, to talk about her inspiration, her passion, her feelings... The only difference is that she was the new thing and the media and the public were all over her. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think her music has lost its quality - I even think she's become even better than she was back in 2008. If big figures necessarily rhymed with quality, we'd know.....
