We are talking about success, are you saying that an artist is only worthy of having fans when they manage to top their previous work commercially? you said at every level. No. The meat dress (her most iconic fashion/shocking moment), Bad romance video (her most watched video ever), telephone video (the edgy fashion and the story created huge buzz) the grammys she won for that album etc. Everything she did back then was commercially successful and definitely it was not only about the music.
