Henry 2,374
I thought the songs were intentionally placed together to show the duality of d--g usage.
Flawless 2,234
She said ARTPOP is a poetical journey. The transition from MJH to Dope is the most logical thing ever. the scars on my mind are on replay.
Silver Keith 27
ya'll are reading into this too much. ARTPOP isn't some sort of metaphorical poetic journey, it's just a bunch of wanna-be singles that never fulfilled their destiny. MJH and dope are just songs
Truth 90
I don't think she cares about logic.
JEWRJEWR 5,663
News section my dear. The song "Dope" most likely isn't referring to marijuana in particular not sure about that Fear, she's the mother of violence
Tokyo Rose 1,475
not sure about that Well go listen to the song and get back with me ;)
heavymlover 340
Well, she admits that she has an addiction. It's not like Dope is a ''Stop doing pot'' song.
holy scheisse 22,255
In my opinion, it really shows the duality of smoking cannabis. Mary Jane Holland celebrates weed as recreation and then Dope shows what happens when you take it too far and use it to medicate yourself. Probably explains why I hate Dope so much, because it spills a lot of tea about marijuana.
mcphee 1,790
I think it is a bit contradictory to have them next to each other MJH is a song about the personal benefits she gains from the d--gs, and Dope is about the lows that come alongside, too. It just doesn't make sense to me, but they're both great songs so idc.
thathimerosguy 3
It doesnt sound like a goodbye song. Its a celebration of pot. a celebration could be a goodbye
Dayman 6,174
I thought it showed a direct transition of how she was while smoking and then her at the breaking point where she realized it was causing her problems and the aftermath of it all.
Arturo 40,746
She obviously put them both side by side to make a statement
Putin 0
a celebration could be a goodbye It just seems hypocritical I dont know. You dont celebrate one thing and after a sec you totally devalue it.
Red 97,983
It would be a valid point if MJH was actually a pro-weed song she said ten billion times it is just a fun song about the day she smoked pit, dyed her hair and went out, not a legalize weed song :Emma: If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating. MJHolland 12,725
Why does the album need to have a single message when it can have multiple? MJH is about escaping the pop star lifestyle, and Dope is apologising for the consequences. THANK YOU. I really didn't want to have to dive in about how MJH and Dope aren't just about d--gs, not for the 1,376,849th time! They make such poetic and artistic statements with so much undertone in each of them! They aren't contradicting each other at all....
