Putin 0
Inspired by Atrl but actually interesting topic to discuss. "Track 12 of ARTPOP is 'Mary Jane Holland' where Gaga sings about smoking marijuana, getting high and basically glamourises smoking pot. Immediately after it is track 13 ('Dope') where she sings about how smoking every day made her feel "low from living high for so long." She basically apologises to her fans for glamourising the d--g, tells them she loves them and needs them more than the d--g, and says she was only smoking it daily it to numb the pain from her hip. My question is, is leaving 'Mary Jane Holland' on the album hypocritical? Should she have removed it before releasing ARTPOP considering it still glamourises the d--g? OR does it show her fans her journey: how she started using the d--g recreationally, then started abusing it and then realised smoking every day wasn't good for her?" Tokyo Rose 1,475
News section my dear. The song "Dope" most likely isn't referring to marijuana in particular

Didymus 34,379
She said ARTPOP is a poetical journey. The transition from MJH to Dope is the most logical thing ever.

VISION 52
Gaga was partying a lot with weed, then she regrets it. Great two side-by-side song choices! Like a mini story
Runway 27,876
how she started using the d--g recreationally, then started abusing it and then realised smoking every day wasn't good for her? this
Queen Gloria 3,464
I think Gaga stopped caring about her hypocrisy a long time ago and little monsters should too. Like her "I hate money" vs. "I love money" speeches during the Monster Ball. I don't think she remembers/cares about half the things she says because all human beings make contradictory statements as time passes. So what? Batwings 12,885
I thought the songs were intentionally placed together to show the duality of d--g usage.

SEVDALIZA 1,274
No, it makes perfect sense, she goes from the cause to the consequence. First she sings about the good side of the story, later on she sings about the dark side, the consequences. operating from another world
BoomKack 6,586
Why does the album need to have a single message when it can have multiple? MJH is about escaping the pop star lifestyle, and Dope is apologising for the consequences.
