TheOriginalOne 10,869
Judas is one of her best videos! But I guess people overreacted because it was released so close to Easter.
Melech 9,900
I only listened to Judas once. Gaga hit something with that song in a negative way. Her career isnt the same since then :noparty:
Blue Jeans 3,815
My thread came back just like Jesus Judas ha power Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen
gagaisitalian 3,573
From a perspective of someone who cares about charts, yes, releasing Judas for a horrible idea. The general public mostly disliked that song. And none of her singles have really been honored since that.
LittleBoot 27
I don't think one song in particular was what caused her to lose the GP's interest. I think, in general, the more she has pushed for creative freedom over time, the less people have been able to relate to her. It is what it is. I suppose Judas didn't help matters, though. Mast 980
To me, it's not that she went too far, it's just that Judas is a not a good song and it's a horrible single choice, plus tacky release timing.
TimisaMonster 31,073
Gaga, her team, and fans knew it was a bad idea, but the Bad Romance formula and RedOne producing seemed more appealing than the thought she could ruin the era and her image. However, controversy isn't bad unless it has to do with religion in the pop industry. Take Wrecking Ball and you'll notice what I'm talking about..... Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify! TimisaMonster 31,073
the problems of Judas is that it had a noisy/aggresive sound people in general dislike unconventional individuals like Gaga Yeah, but I feel that even when she released BTW single... She REALLY solidified her image as a "gay" pop star and from that era onward you were SUPPOSED to not like her. BTW single and Judas back to back gave people a perfect circumstance to not care for her anymore... :awkney: Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify! Guest
Judas should've never been a single, but I don't think that people stopped caring about her just because of that one song. I mean, hello, The Edge of Glory was huge right after Judas. I just think she needs to have the right singles consistently, at the right times. That was big part of TF/TFM's success, every single was the perfect choice, everything from Just Dance to Born This Way was perfect. BTW had Judas (obvious backlash), Yoü and I (one of her best songs but didn't fair as well worldwide), and Marry the Night (brilliant song and choice, but it was released at the wrong time...I don't think anything was going to do too well after Yoü and I/overexposure in such a short amount of time). This era should've been a bit more paced with single released, but after the Judas/TEOG switch, I feel like everything became really rushed. Then we get to ARTPOP...Applause (amazing song, but not the "huge comeback single" everyone, maybe adds to the fuel of "Gaga isn't as good as she used to be. Why can't she right something like Bad Romance?" or whatever), Do What U Want (probably one of the best single choices of Gaga's career that was ruined by horrible, horrible execution and the last minute switch from Venus), and G.U.Y. (good song, kinda repetitive, not exactly the best choice when you have something like Gypsy or Sexxx Dreams still sitting on the album. A lot of stations wouldn't play it because they thought it didn't sound like a hit). But yeah, sorry that was long, but I think the singles are the biggest factor in her popularity with casual listeners. That's what's gonna draw them into buying/listening to her albums, and if the singles aren't the best/right choices, executed well, reflect the album's sound well, and not released too close together or too far apart, then it can affect a lot of things. Lady Gaga herself after the BTW era ended said she didn't want Judas as a single. She said she wanted the singles to be: "btw, scheibe, teog, mtn" something like that. EXACTLY why Gaga needs control over her singles choices. She obviously knows which songs to pick. Those would've been perfect. I do honestly think that Judas as a single was a huge mistake. If she had rode the momentum of "Born This Way" into the second single being "The Edge of Glory", I think things definitely could've panned out better. Not to mention that I don't necessarily get the vibe that Gaga was too thrilled about it being a single either. If The Edge of Glory had been released as the second single right after Born This Way, it would've gone #1 and slayed even harder than it did. Last minute single switches are never a good idea, Interscope.

If The Edge of Glory had been released as the second single right after Born This Way, it would've gone #1 and slayed even harder than it did. Last minute single switches are never a good idea, Interscope. I agree with everything. The 2nd pre-album single from BTW was bound to debut at #1. She had the hype enough to bring in huge numbers, even after the release of the lead single as shown by the first-week numbers of TEOG and the album itself. Until, Judas was named the 2nd single (w/c further alienated the casual mainstream music fans), and to make matters worse, it was rush-released in the worst timing ever. And looking back, it did cause her biggest backlash, chart-wise, in the long run. How? She has never entered the top three on the HOT 100 since then. TEOG, as the official third single, didn't even (re-)enter the top three on the HOT 100. Its peak was its debut when it was released as a promo single (i.e. its peak was fanbase-driven, and not radio-driven). And ever since the release of Judas, she has also yet to score a top three hit in the UK. After TEOG, she has also yet to re-enter the top three in Germany, a market she used to dominate after securing 4 #1s from TF(M). All of these clearly display how much commercial backlash she has suffered due to the release of Judas as a short-lived 2nd single. Yes, it's a great song. But a good single? Not even close.
