I dunno about the USA but where I live Judas was the biggest success from Born This Way. The rest of the singles were just so meeh and never really managed to achieve the success of Alejandro, Bad Romance and Poker Face. It wasn't a mistake in my opinion and yet considering how Catholics are preachy and demonstrative in their beliefs (yeah thats very apparent for Orthodox Christians, it's like they believe in God only to show it to other people...  :toofunny: ) I'm not surprised there was a backlash. Also the story about the two flatmates that was posted here a few days ago just shows how Christianity is ''peaceful'' and what people are ready to do for the sake of some ****ty made-up stories....    :noparty: . So Judas, while the best single, was the perfect victim for people to attack...

people really misunderstand the lyrics of the bible, and thus Gaga's Judas lyrics.

Funny to know that through dna research (off course not awknowlegded by the Vatican)

researchers proved that Judas, Jesus and Jacob were siblings (they found the grave, with 10 chests, each bearing the names of the apostles).

Some people only read litterally, the bible is meant to be read in methaphors and symbolism. unfortunately

1/2 of the worlds population isn't that smart/ or educated

i think she should have released Sheisse.  It wouldn't have been commercially popular, but it would have shown she really doesn't care about the bling.

But really, no I don't think it was a mistake to release Judas.  It made sense.  I liked Judas better than BTW and it was the album's Bad Romance TBH.  People just didn't latch on to it. So no, it wasn't a mistake.  On paper, it made total and complete sense.

Biggest mistake in her career so far. So much backlash from that.

Re-listening Judas now and I don't even like it anymore.

It completely aged and I can't enjoy it anymore

As for the backlash, IDK...TEOG did really well, which came after Judas, so I don't think it caused that many problems as we claim...it's more like the messiness of her eras and bad single choices which turned her into an underdog, and then Katy Perry completely obliterated her in front of the public

That's because the song would have been #1 had she released it and not paid it dust like that

It was perfection from BTW (along with HML)

The lyrics are obviously metaphorical, so I'm surprised that so many people take issue with the song.

Also, I think it's mostly just the fans who think that Judas somehow affected her popularity. Hell, most members of the GP probably don't even know the song exists since it was sandwiched in between Born This Way and The Edge of Glory which were much more popular. People will casually reference "all the backlash," but I honestly never saw any.

Yes. I knew it was a mistake the second she announced it

But I never knew just how big a mistake it was until I saw how it affected her popularity, even years later  :ohno:

When she released Judas as the next single from Born This Way, I almost left her. I'm Roman Catholic you see?

The beat is okay and stuff but the lyrics are really offending.

She should have made the song titled 'Lucas' for Luc Carl.

"I wanna love you but something's pulling me away from you.....

LUCASSS,  LUCA-AAAAASSSSS"

I'm roman Catholic too but I couldn't care less, Because I Knew what she meant.

Judas is a fantastic song, but serving it as a single around Easter destroyed a little chunk of the fan base.

It's my favorite song from Born This Way though  :rockstar:

I do honestly think that Judas as a single was a huge mistake. If she had rode the momentum of "Born This Way" into the second single being "The Edge of Glory", I think things definitely could've panned out better.

Not to mention that I don't necessarily get the vibe that Gaga was too thrilled about it being a single either.
