Lack of shocking value in ARTPOP

Swine would have done pretty well I think, even if it didn't do well in the charts having that song and vomit performance to start a new album from a one year break would have been smart. Gaga should have jumped in the deep end with the lead single and picked something with a bit more punch, such as MANiCURE or Swine, I personally think something aggressive like those two would have upped sales. Imagine having a one year break just to recover and then bouncing back with a kick in the face song and some really ballsy performance to go with it. After a really bad ass lead single then release something like Applause to show a softer approach or even G.U.Y which would have worked pretty well coming after something like Swine or MANiCURE mainly because of the contrast of those songs

Well, she had a duet with R.Kelly, doing song about Burqa, and name her album ARTPOP, how much controversy she can do for an album tbh?? :fan:

Or maybe it just didn't do as well because the music isn't as good as it used to be?

This as well tbh, in some sense I think ARTPOP was put out as Gaga was sick of sitting around recovering she just wanted to do more songs and have an excuse to tour. I hope that after ARTPOP she'll release something a bit better now she's back doing what she loves; in a sense like she's been reborn or just starting over again

Honestly, the way for her to "shock" the GP at this point is to release a non-electronic album that really showcases her voice.

I think it's very difficult to shock people for years. Maybe it's time for her to establish her career as a more serious artist. Nowadays more people seem to be shocked when she is dressing "normal" than when she is wearing some crazy fashion.

And I am sorry but I can't support Swine as a single. It's been my least favourite Gaga song since it's release. I just don't like it at all.  :smh:

I think ARTPOP has a lot of intriging moments maybe not to the point of shocking

and I'm fine with that, I rather not have it be shocking just to attract the GPs

this is Gaga's artistry and if she want it like that I support it!

She did said that Act 1 is more commercial and radio friendly.....that's makes me wonder what Act 2 is going to sound like less commercial more experimenting....EVEN MORE EXCITING!

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

Overall I disagree that ARTPOP as an album didn't have as many shocking moments. Aura, Jewels N' Drugs, DWUW, Swine, Dope and ARTPOP were all departures in sound. I remember listening to these songs for the first time and being taken aback by how different they were. I didn't have this with any of her other albums.

Precisely. With this album, she was very steadfast in her exploration of electronic music, and she successfully avoided being redundant with her craft while also giving us (in my opinion) a delicious collection of sparkling, well-written songs.

I think the fans' reaction to the album has more to do with the unreasonable expectations projected onto her than a lack of effort on her part. I appreciate that instead of trying to top BTW, she went underneath and came up with something warmer, more subtle, and still surprising in many ways.

Shock only works for a while then people get used to it.  Shock on it's own cannot provide longevity.  The fact is that Gaga's early brand of electronic pop will have a limited life span.  Look at nearly any music artist... at some point they may have a large success, but if they keep doing the same stuff their sales will stabilize to a core fan base.  It's only by changing things up that multiple high successes are achieved over a career.  Thats why Gaga needs to keep changing things, but changing in directions that she wants to go that might create a new wave of appreciation for something different, not changing just to attempt to ride existing waves.

Shock may have gotten her name to the world but it won't keep her there.  I don't mind Gaga doing shock "organically" as part of her process, but she shouldn't attempt to shock just for shock value.

ARTPOP sounded shocking to me. It was nothing I was expecting and I was overwhelmed.

You basically made me read this thinking you were going to give us the real reason why ARTPOP failed this era....and your answer is Swine should've been the lead single? :later:

Swine would NOT have been a good start to the ARTPOP era. Yeah it's catchy, but the lyrics are really hard to understand. People actually wouldn't think Gaga's being original anymore and using an EDM breakdown song as her desperate attempt to keep her relativity. This isn't me being negative...I just can see so many people hating on the song, the performances, and her as a person. You want the album era to start off with people giving you attention...not them hating you! :smh:

THIS honestly. After all she's done, it's hard to shock people again. The only way to shock people is to make her look normal and really show her vocals
