PopBitch 1,218
That NMT video paid homage to Madonna. She has stated that, and I could see the references in it instantly from Madonna videos like Human Nature, Express Yourself, Justify My Love, and also just from her Erotica period and bondage. Nemo 4,293
The NMT video references Madonna and George Michael. I don't see Gaga in it. Keeps Gettin' Better, more so; but still, I think it's probably coincidental.

It's like slightly reminiscent but I don't think NMT is a rip off of either Madonna or Gaga. Christina's image has always felt a little one dimensional and manufactured. She's a singer and an entertainer, but her artistry has never been at the forefront, therefore she's always been a little flat in executing beyond that. MonsterRocket 55
With that awful Bad Romance rip off video, yes absolutely. every pop girl was following Gaga's lead after 2008-2009, so in a way yes. It was based on a Madonna video. Not Gaga. Christina said the video was homage to Madonna. Think before you speak. Okay, so she waited for Gaga to appear to do that 'Madonna homage'? I guess that sounds more like an excuse and a way of attacking Gaga as stating the confusion of her work to Madonna is easy. And what the hell does that video look like Madonna?! The esthetic and visual imaginery, the heavy make-up, the eccentric outfits are totally Gaga, not Madonna. I know they've joined each other and so ,but i guess that's because Gaga doesn't care about the past or the bad things others said. Maybe Xtina showe her her regret. PopBitch 1,218
There were similarities, but I don't think it was a blatant ripoff of Gaga's music. I still haven't forgiven Christina for making Monday Morning and Birds of Prey bonus tracks. I know. There was so much more on that album than electronica, which some of that part was great, but some dated sounding. But also plenty of other music. Monday Morning was one of my favorites. Birds of Prey was actually progressive in sound and very trancy and so atmospheric.. Her ballads on there were so sophisticated and beautiful. Her understated vocals on I Am were so beautiful and the gorgeous Lift Me Up for your darkest moments. You Lost Me, nobody can touch her on songs like that. Chills. She did an R&B song. And the sweet song, Little Dreamer. There's so many different genres on Bionic deluxe and shows all of the different shades to Xtina's voice and delivery and she really experimented with her voice, instead of always the signature Xtina big vocals. . It's a shame the album wasn't made shorter and the filler gone, which would have given it more of an identity. I still listen to so many songs off of this album. The vocals and words to this song are so beautiful and poignant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LKsthurQys

She's a singer and an entertainer, but her artistry has never been at the forefront, therefore she's always been a little flat in executing beyond that. Where did I say Madonna owned the idea? I said Christina said the video was an homage to Madonna. Many critics all noticed the references to certain Madonna videos.. I never said copying anybody but Madonna's influence was evident. I agree with your last paragraph on Christina. She has always come off one-dimensional in her execution of things and her soundbites about her music, etc. But so much of her actual music I find moving and definitely connected to her and her life. "According to Aguilera, the music video of "Not Myself Tonight" is a tribute to the pop star Madonna, citing her music videos as its major influence, most notably "Express Yourself" (1989).[43][44] She said "One of my favourite videos ever is 'Express Yourself' by Madonna which came across as really strong and empowering which I always try to incorporate through my expression of s-xuality [...] I love the direct reference I made to Madonna with the eye glass moment and the smoke and stairs. I was paying tribute to a very strong woman who has paved the way before."[43] James Montgomery from MTV News noted "Truthfully, there are several Madonna videos referenced in "Not Myself Tonight," but especially this iconic 1989 clip helmed by David Fincher [Express Yourself]. More than anything, it appears to be the primary influence on Aguilera's clip, from the monocle Xtina [Aguilera] wears to the Fritz Lang-ian sets."[45] He also said that the S&M features in the video were reminiscent of her video for "Human Nature", commenting, "The influence on "Tonight" is pretty evident, most notably in Christina's leather get-ups, her dominatrix attitude and the sultry chair-related activities she engages in throughout." holy scheisse 22,272
No, she just had bad luck that Gaga did it better. The Not Myself Tonight video was so obviously inspired by Madonna tho. Saying that it looks like a Gaga video is actually shading Gaga imo. But it did look like a gaga video--bad romance
HORRORHOLIC 104
No I don't. And as for the video, I never thought it was all that similar to Bad Romance and it's already been explained it was a reference to Madonna.
